sam's digest — a weekly newsletter of my 3 favorite architectural gems on the market in los angeles, + raw life updates. issue 5. 2/16/24.

//    the mood & vibes this week

— the sun has finally emerged, and i'm feeling pretty good. my ideal winter weather is around ~60 degrees with blue skies, which is the forecast for this week.
— for the last 8 weeks, i haven't been able to run due to some medical things. honestly, it's been tough. i'm sure you've dealt with a time when, for whatever reason, you couldn't do a daily essential that has a massive impact on your mental health. well the good news is: i am finally cleared to go back! and i had my first run yesterday (sunday, it's monday as i write this). it was awesome.
— toured an architectural in silver lake offered at $1.6M. surprisingly, a 90s renovation by a disney imagineer makes this house warm, full of character, and straight-up gorgeous. because trust me, i give the 90s zero passes in terms of architecture, but this one absolutely nailed the vibes.
— spent friday & saturday with my dad in san diego. he lives in this place called pacific beach, and i really enjoyed strolling the “calles," the narrow streets adjacent to the sand. after this weekend, i have mentally added a midcentury beach house to my list of future property acquisitions. but it was just really lovely to be with family. my sister & i are really, really close, and not living near each other is hard. it takes intentional effort to stay close with family & friends when they're not in your backyard, and that's something i am prioritizing this year.

//    three things i love (tours, objects, people)

— into this northern california wine country estate, with tons of berkeley lore, that's currently on the market. i would absolutely live out my parent trap napa valley fantasy here. check out the listing.
— re-reading one of my favorite books right now, you are a badass by jen sincero.
— my friends at open space series (the vision of @socalarchitecture + frequent collabs with the absolutely rad @sterlingreed.us) highlight the visual stories behind old houses. their filmography is mystical.
