Weekend 01

Dear Community Members,

Weekends are perfect opportunities to deepen our understanding and commitment to racial equity. That’s why I’m excited to introduce you to the Weekend Equity Engagement Challenge, inspired by the esteemed work of Dr. Eddie Moore, Dr. Marguerite Penick-Parks, and Debby Irving. As we embark on this journey, we recognize that forming new habits takes time. Therefore, we’ve curated a series of weekend activities designed to cultivate self-awareness and intentionality towards social change. By participating, we aim to foster inclusive environments, become better advocates, and view the world through an equity lens to promote a more just society.

You can log your participation and share your insights using this log. Feel free to join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #UWFCEquityChallenge. We understand that everyone’s schedule varies, so don’t feel pressured to complete every activity each day. Each weekend session typically requires 30 to 60 minutes, but the goal isn’t to assign homework—it’s to cultivate daily habits that broaden our perspectives, inspire deeper learning, and empower us to confront racial injustice and dismantle systems of oppression.

To kick off our journey, take a moment to reflect on your initial thoughts about this activity. Where do you currently stand in terms of understanding racial equity issues, and what are your hopes for this challenge?

At the heart of our endeavor lies the belief that we are not powerless against racism. Together, we can challenge the notion that racism is a relic of the past and work towards a future where justice and equality prevail.

To get started, watch the following videos:

Reflect on the questions posed after each video. Has your perception of your racial identity shifted? How do you see the legacy of racism operating in today’s world, particularly in political discourse and policy decisions?

Let’s seize this opportunity to deepen our understanding and commitment to racial equity. Together, we can create a better future for all.

Warm regards,
Antonia Monk Richburg
