MARA IRS Tax Seminar

Susanne Guo, IRS Sr. Stakeholder Liaison and Bilingual Tax Specialist will be coming in to speak to business owners about IRS Tax. 
 
The seminar will be hosted in two seperate session. One in English and another in Chinese. 
 
The topics may include but not limited to the following:
2024 Filing Season Updates for Business
Better Records Help Improve Business Operations
IRS Online Tools and Resources
Communicate with IRS in Other Language
Identity Theft and Tax Scam
Offshore Assets Reporting Requirements

Free English Language Course

The foundation is currently accepting applications for these programs, targeting employees earning less than $25.80 per hour or $53,700 annually. The ESL class, starting in early March, aims to enroll 100 participants and offers virtual training focused on restaurant-specific English language skills. 
 
Additionally, other available opportunities include:
Hourly Employee Track- This is for all of your entry level restaurant staff. (Only 11 hours- Virtual)
 
They receive the following certifications:
  • ServSafe Allergen/Massachusetts
  • Allergen Awareness
  • ServSafe Food Handler
  • ServSafe Alcohol
  • Unconscious Bias for Employees
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Prevention for Employees
  • Financial Literacy
 
Culinary – ideal for dishwashers, cleaning, prep interested in a promotion to line cook. (111 Hours- Virtual- participants will receive a laptop from us for this track).
 
They will receive the following certifications:
  • Rouxbe* Online Basic Culinary (training used by Mariott and other well-known hospitality organizations)
  • Knife Skills
  • Cooking Methods
  • ACF Fundamentals Cook Certification
  • Financial Literacy
 
Management- This is for your shift lead, key holder, someone interested in a promotion to management. Completion of this track does not result in full management training, but puts the employee on the path. (89 Hours- Virtual)
 
Participant receives the following certifications:
  • ServSafe Allergen/Massachusetts
  • Allergen Awareness
  • ServSafe Manager
  • ServSafe Alcohol
  • Unconscious Bias for Managers
  • Financial Literacy
  • Train 321 Full Course Suite
  • How to Deal with a Difficult Customer
  • Upselling
  • Workplace Ethics

7th annual small business, big dreams contest
June 17th - Final presentation & QA

Rockland Trust's 7th annual Small Business, Big Dreams Contest provides small businesses with a chance to win $20,000 to help their business grow. 
 
The participants will be narrowed down to 3 finalists who will be featured in a video series as they prepare for a final presentation to a panel of judges. The panel will deliberate to select the winner of the $20,000 grand prize. Both runners-up will receive $2,500.
 
Submissions are opened starting March 4th, 2024.

Grant & Program Opportunities
(Deadline 03/15/24) The Greg Hill Foundation's Restaurant Strong Grant - Restaurants will have the opportunity to apply for this grant by providing specific plans outlining how the grant will be utilizes and expectations of growth. Grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 will be awarded based on need and growth opportunity showcased in the application.
 
(Rolling Deadline) Amber Grant - Women's Net gives away at least $30,000 every month in Amber Grant money. In recognition of the diversity of businesses owned by women, they've also expanded their grant-giving to include Marketing Grants, Business Category Grants, as well as two $25,000 Year End Grants.
 
(Rolling Deadline) Free LLC Formation for Moms - Zenbusiness is giving every mom in America the ability to start an LLC for free, plus the cost of your state fee.
