As writers, getting into a creative flow is paramount. And as a hard-working, time-strapped entrepreneur, it’s safe to say it is for you, too.

The thing is, that’s often easier said than done. Can we share our take with you on why?

It's not your lack of vision. Your waning desire. Your imposter syndrome. Your comparison to your competitors. Your ebbs & flows of burnout. Or whatever else you blame yourself for.

While, sure, that may have something to do with it at times, we'll tell you what it *really* is:

Distraction. Split attention. Indecision. Pure overchoice.

Most of us set out each day to do 20 different "priority" tasks while being influenced and impacted by more than 20 apps and communication channels that endlessly disrupt our flow. We're relying on robots, hacks, and other shortcuts because we genuinely can't think for ourselves. Our brains are taxed. Spent. Squirrel-like, at best.

  • Brew a fresh cup of coffee, tea - or better yet, a glass of wine, if you’re pulling evening hours. We love this one, this one, or something a little funky from a favorite local wine shop to subtly uninhibit those creative ideas. For great non-alcoholic picks, we love this online shop.

  • Turn on a lyrics-free playlist like this one. Writing is kinda hard when you find yourself in the midst of a T-Swift sing-a-long, ya know?

  • Get dressed in a comfy, yet cute loungewear set. When you dress well, you test well. (At least that’s what one of KP’s grade school teachers used to say …) You can’t go wrong with any of these:
    • Cloud Hoodie & Jogger - our client Born Primitive really nailed it with the design of this waffle-textured material you’ll want to wear on repeat.
  • Close out your tabs, keeping it to only the ones you need for the task at-hand. If you don’t want to have to later re-pull them all up one by one, check out OneTab. It’s a game-changing Chrome Extension to close out an entire browser window full of tabs, and then pull them all back up later in just one click.

  • Start with an outline or braindump. The first thing you write likely won’t be a pure stroke of genius. (It usually isn’t for even the best of writers or creatives.) Get whatever you can out onto page then cull through it, refine, add to, and edit from there. And sure, you can converse with ChatGPT if you need a little help with ideation - but then put your own human spin on it and trust the process!!
