There's nothing like having a puppy to get a person outside more, right, First name / friend?
It's no secret that I don't like to be outside when it's cold. But I don't have a choice since Harley needs to make frequent trips outside to potty or play. While spending time outside with him this week, I discovered a beautiful camellia bush in full bloom in a corner of our yard that I rarely visit. It was like walking into a wonderland with reddish-pink blossoms all around me! Thank goodness camellias aren't toxic to dogs!
✨Save the date!✨
After talking about it for several weeks, it's finally time for our first Productivity P.O.D. Session! 🎉 We'll meet this Tuesday evening (February 27) at 7 p.m. EST. We'll be using a platform called Butter for our virtual meeting, and I think you'll like it!
I'll email you more details on Monday, but here are a few things to know:
We'll meet from 7–8 p.m. EST. We'll chat a bit at the beginning and end of the session, but our goal is to have 50 minutes of productive time to work on our own. We'll be muted during the 50 minutes so we can concentrate on our tasks.
Be thinking about what you'd like to accomplish during the Productivity P.O.D. Session. You can proofread or edit some content, write an article, create social media posts, or work on something else for your business.
Familiarize yourself with Butter ahead of time. It's similar to Zoom, but better! I recommend that you check out this guide: How to Butter: A Participant's Guide.
I'm giving away a prize to one random attendee! More details about that coming soon.
Catch of the Week:
I often see these words switched. Remember that discrete refers to things that are separate or distinct, while discreet refers to being careful or subtle, often in terms of behavior or appearance.💡
This Week's Featured Proofreader or Editor:
Jo from Nurturing Words
The Proofreader Greenhouse asked:
What type of content do you proofread or edit? Fiction manuscripts for self-publishing romance and women's fiction authors
Did you complete a training course for proofreaders, or are you self-taught? I've completed training from the following: Proofread Anywhere; Australian College: Editing and Publishing; Australian Writers' Centre; Writers SA: Manuscript Incubator; Romance Writers of Australia; and IPEd. I've also done many online courses and masterclasses on editing, writing, and pretty much anything to do with fiction publication.
What's your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing business? Without a doubt, when the author releases their book. Knowing I've had a small part to play in making their dreams come true is the best feeling.
What causes you the most frustration in your business? When clients can't get their work to you on time and you have to shuffle your other bookings to accommodate them
What tips would you like to share with other proofreaders and editors? My business has grown through networking with my ideal clients. Yes, it's scary to put yourself out there and talk about what you love doing, but the more you do it, the easier it gets. For me, I became active in the Romance Writers of Australia (I also write in this genre, so it was a win-win). My clients have now become my writing buddies and good friends.
