The Power of
Not Giving a Sh*t.

When it comes to your life, no one cares.

The people who matter the most to you obviously care about you, but how many people is that out of 8 billion?

To start off like this may sound a little depressing, but trust me, it’s not. It’s actually one of the most liberating and empowering truths you can ever realize.

No one cares.

Let me explain why this is a good thing.

It means you can be whoever you want and live however you want. Obviously, our society has laws and norms, so don’t stretch my words too far, but when it comes to being yourself and going after what you want, you don’t ever have to worry about what other people think of you…because they don’t.

Consider this: how many times in life has someone annoyed you? It could be someone at a store, it could be someone you used to go to school with, it doesn’t matter. Now, seriously ask yourself, since that person has come and gone out of your life in whatever amount of time it took, do you care where that person is, or what they’re doing right now?

I sure hope you said no to that last question.

Besides, everyone else is too busy with their own lives and problems, so who has time to judge or ridicule anyone else? And for those who do care, who judge others, ridicule people, or gossip, they aren’t worth your attention anyway. It’s loser behavior. I’ve said it before, and I stick by that.

So, what does any of this mean for you?

Like I said, it means you can move through life with less conflict and drama. You can finally understand the freedom that comes with not worrying about what other people think about you and start focusing on what you think about yourself.

That’s what’s most important anyway, isn’t it? How many times have you, or someone you’re with, walked into a public place and worried that people would judge you based on what you’re wearing, or how you appear? If you look back on those times now in your mind, it seems ridiculous, doesn’t it? Put yourself on the other side, if you’re out having a nice meal with your friends or family, do you really care what anyone else in the restaurant is wearing?

Now that you’re beginning to see that no one cares, how can you use this knowledge to your advantage?
tips to help you stop worrying about what others think:
  • Set your own goals and standards: Don’t let society or anyone else tell you what you should do or be. Decide what makes you happy and fulfilled, then go after it with everything you’ve got. If anyone is going to judge your success, it should be you and you alone.
  • Stop comparing yourself to others: And while I’m at it, don’t seek validation from them either. You are the only one that knows what you’ve been through and what it’s taken for you to get this far. We’ve all had to overcome setbacks, so understand that they are a part of your story and no one else’s. I understand that kind words can make us feel really good, but only when they are authentic. So, remember, feedback is important, but only when it's constructive.
  • Embrace what makes you different: Don’t try to conform. We have to do that enough at our jobs or with other organizations we may be a part of, but when it comes to you as a person, you are free. You can’t please everyone. Sh*t, you’ll never even get everyone to like you for that matter. But when you’re happy, do you spend a single moment even thinking about that?
  • Get out of your comfort zone: I’ve said this in several different newsletters, but I bring it up again because it’s relevant and important. Don’t let fear stop you from trying new things. I’ve said it so many times, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. You won’t be great at everything the first time you try it, but don’t let that loser mentality tell you that you’ll never be good at it. Bottom line: Keep going!

this is a chance to live your life on your own terms, not on someone else’s.

Remember, everything I’m talking about here is a positive thing. But like a lot of the things I talk about, don’t just take my word for it. Try it for yourself. I would love to know if you’ve ever applied these tips (or something close to it), and what kind of difference it made for you. But more importantly, share your success stories with me! I want to hear from you.

go ahead and live your best life. No one cares…And that’s a good thing.
I'll see you in the next one,
-Steven Williams
