sam's digest — a weekly newsletter of my 3 favorite architectural gems on the market in los angeles, + raw life updates. issue 7. 3/1/24.

//    the mood & vibes this week

— good morning! i can't believe it's march already. wow. seems like a second ago it was the holidays, and now we're 3 moons into the year. the vibe lately is finding ways to slow that time snowball down.
— and speaking of … garden plans are underway! at my new place in topanga, there's a large yard shared by me & my landlord. the house is on a gentle hill, with mountain views and ample sunlight. there's a gorgeous spot near the top that's begging for about three veggie beds.
— because if there's one thing you should know one thing about me, it's that i'm a huge gardener. i grew up planting veggie plots with my family from a young age. & a few years back, i actually did my first landscape design-build project: turning my parent's vacant side yard into a biodynamic garden. south-facing, it was formerly a 6 foot wide, 35 foot long dog run with a patch of heritage blackberry & raspberry vines. with the help of some contractors, we cleared out the junk, added four garden beds against the side of the house, + pavers + gravel + potted citrus & lavender.
— now, 3 years later, it's an awesome space. two of the beds have jasmine vines that climb almost ten feet up the side of the house, creating a secret garden vibe. & in previous summers, i've filled the rest of the space with tomatoes, zucchini, california poppies, and the like.
— i haven't had access to this garden in a few years. and my old place in silver lake was sorely lacking in outdoor space. but now … i'm more than ready to get my urban farmer on.
— writing some offers with clients, and can confirm the market is heating up. was battling 16 people for one house a few weeks ago, which is absolutely wild.
— as usual, tooling around LA looking at great houses + meeting new clients, which is always fun. whenever i get a referral, or a new buyer/seller reaches out to me on instagram, we usually connect for coffee to chat & see if we're a good fit.
— 9 times out of 10, clients who reach out to me from instagram are looking for a house that's very much up my alley; earthy, unique, + soulful. i really believe your vibe attracts your tribe. which is why i feel lucky to have such a great group of interesting, creative, and aligned clients.

//    three things i love (tours, objects, people)

a cabin in mendocino built by a queer couple, for a queer couple. found this AD feature back in may of last year, and i literally haven't stopped thinking about it since. it's wonderful.
this lotion is everywhere. and it's objectively the best-smelling body lotion i've ever tried. i'm very into baths & body wellness; it's a huge part of my slow living practices. and this vanilla cashmere lotion, wow. i use it, my mom uses it, my best friend uses it. it's delicious.
been a fan of elevated spaces since 2021. jeff & his partner molly built a redwood cabin in the santa cruz mountains, which was featured in dwell before it burned down in the 2020 fires. but they've been rebuilding! and have an incredible aesthetic + vibe + design & life sensibility.
