It seems like it's becoming harder and harder to be a woman in America these days. We're going into another Women's History Month, and our 2nd year of the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and it just doesn't sit right with me. Why? Well, because women's rights, or I'll just say the rights of the female body have been rolling back ever since. Just days ago, the Alabama Supreme Court decided that embryos used in IVF are considered babies, and anyone that destroys them may be liable for wrongful death. Prompting Alabama fertility clinics to pause their operations immediately. Unbelievable! But, at the same time I can believe it because too many politicians, (both male and female) have showed us repeatedly that they are ignorant to reproductive health and lack empathy, and common sense. These actions are about controlling women and it's disgusting to witness. Do people still not believe that women are capable of making their own decisions? Have we not shown that we are powerful and worthy of living our lives as we please? With so much advancement within our history, it feels like it will all be rolled back in the next few years. Specifically when it comes to our health and wellness. I mean what does our future in this country really look like now? I think education and sharing information may be the key to pushing for change, especially for anyone that's economically vulnerable living in a red state.
So, this first issue of March includes some updated tools and resources for those seeking a new physician, OB/GYN, dermatologist, and more. With legislation making healthcare less accessible and equal for all, I'm feeling more passionate to create more spaces to talk about these issues with this community here. I'll be working on connecting folks to more platforms that provide access to vetted content and safe doctors. Honestly, at this point as a doula myself, I'm moved to do SOMETHING! Doing nothing is no longer an option, when our future is at stake.
