Excited to present this guest post from Dr. Isabel Montemayor-Vazquez to help give you perspective on being a graduate student. Isa was a McNair scholar at CMU and is now the Executive Director of the Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan.
Never will you ever.
Never will you be in a situation where by just sitting in a classroom, you are changing the face of higher education.

Never will you have such a unique opportunity to travel the world and present your research to new audiences, contributing to knowledge production in real-time.

Never will you have such a heavy load to carry while at the same time dancing because you see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Never will you find yourself trying new foods, drinking a ton of coffee, or going to work out, all while summarizing some random theory at 4 am on a Wednesday.

Never will you enjoy something so much because of the time and effort you invested in it, the way you will with grad school.

Never will you question yourself, your goals, your existence the way you will in grad school.

Never will one piece of paper mean so much to you the way your degree will every time you see your name with PhD or MA after it.

Never will your life change the way it will after earning your graduate degree.

Isa and I shared a “candid conversation” a while back if you're interested in having a listen. Click here. ♥️
