Prevention is better than cure.
Spring Dead Spot

Welcome First name / fellow lawn addict to the another instalment of “The Fulcrum”.
As Autumn falls upon us, it's time to carry out our preventative applications for the approaching Winter and coming Spring.  Afterall, we want our lawns best  foot forward when we are expecting it to bounce out of dormancy.

Through Winter our lawns are susceptible to more weed pressure, they will experience Larvae/Grub pressure and damage to a dormant lawn will be a significant set back in any Spring green up. Diseases like Spring Dead Spot is triggered by reduced night time temperatures promoting more dew and higher moisture levels in your turfs canopy and thatch also needs consideration.  Timely pesticide applications this time of year will make all the difference for next Spring.

Spring Dead Spot fungicide treatments need to start now with your first treatment followed up again in a month as we are chasing two pathogens active at two different temperatures. Signs of Spring Dead Spot will not appear typically until later Winter and Spring in dinner plate like dead patches taking most of the Summer to repair.
Continue to be vigilant with this dew and mycelium forming in your grass and be prepared to treat it, looking for leaf spots and patches forming.  Refrain from fertilising if you suspect your lawn has a disease as fertilising will flare it up.

Look at our range of fungicide products to pick one suitable for you!

With prevention of your weed's, this is your most important pre-emergent application, It needs to go into the soil now, the soil temps have started to drop with the cooler nights and in the coming month or so winter weeds will start to germinate, we want your preemergent locked and loaded.
Pre emergent herbicides as previously touched on leave a residual barrier in your soil profile for an extended period of time, this time depends on the product. As autumn can be unpredictable with its temperatures, its better to be early than be late.  You may have already start seeing weeds, Barricade is compatible with many foliar post emergent herbicides.  When applying these together we recommend applying them with your pressure sprayer one afternoon, leaving them as a foliar application and watering in them in the following morning.  If doing this, we do not recommend using a soil wetter to aid the pre emergent soil positioning.

If you still haven’t put your Acelepryn out, now is the time before it gets much later, mix it with the pre-emergent, and a tip is to apply with Hydrolink
Advance to help position it into the soil.  Black Beetle are not the only larvae producing beetle, there’s a few Cockchafers plus others that produce larvae too.  Their life cycles are also different, in particular, Cockchafers tend to be more active in the cooler months.
