Every March, just before the equinox, the first sighting of crocuses takes us by surprise. They are such a miracle! Crocuses look fragile and delicate, and yet, these beauties emerge boldly out of the cool damp earth.
The crocus plant is a member of the iris family. There are about 80 species and they sprout all over the world. They typically grow in rocky mountain sides, shrub-lands and woodlands, can be used as a spice or medicine and
tolerate both the low temperatures and cold weather conditions of the season.
Crocuses pepper the ground with new life, and are a sign of strength and grace. Enjoy the color that is to come, and happy Spring.
