Hey, First name / friends!

This year, our weekly #CreateWithCatCoq challenges have been largely focused on trends. And this week is no exception! Last week, we switched things up a bit and did a challenge based on a specific color palette. It's always so fun to see different interpretations of the same palette! Here are a few of last week's submissions.

Badminton and other racquet sports like pickle ball and tennis have been exploding in popularity and so is demand for racquet sports artwork! Trend forecasters like Spoonflower and Pinterest have noted this 2024 trend, so I decided to add some badminton artwork to my portfolio earlier this year.

Fun fact: Shuttlecocks are a beloved icon of my hometown! I used to live across the street from the Nelson Atkins Art Museum in Kansas City. The front & back lawn of the museum is peppered with massive shuttlecock sculptures. So this was an especially fun motif for me to draw. (And my first non-ironic sports illustration 😅)

 

I’m in Chiang Mai, Thailand right now, and coincidentally, I live across the street from a badminton complex. When I’m outside petting cats, I’m often serenaded by the sound of sneakers squeaking on the court. Badminton is especially popular with university students here! And if you live in the U.S. I have a feeling you’ve proooobably heard of the overnight sensation that is pickle ball.
