Kimfer here, your resident Irish American farm girl, wondering how you spent your St. Patrick's Day yesterday? π
You're probably wondering to yourself, βWait, Kimfer is Irish?β
Yep! You read that right! Despite what you might think at first glance, my roots trace back to the Emerald Isles, or at least my adopted family are. π I was adopted from South Korea into a first-generation Irish farm family in the Midwest, and part of my last name, "Flanery," says it all about my Irish roots.
Although, I do identify as Asian American or Korean American, the Irish roots are also strong. So, when it comes to St. Paddy's Day, you better believe I'm all in!
My dog, Yeti, also has no idea that I'm Irish. He just knows I love on him, walk him, feed him, and that I'm his mama.
But beyond the shamrocks and shenanigans, St. Patrick's Day is another reminder to reflect on the various roots that strengthen our community through our diversity.
Fun Facts:
St. Patrick's Day originated as a religious feast day to commemorate the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. Over time, it evolved into a celebration of Irish culture and heritage, marked by parades, music, dancing, and of course, plenty of good community togetherness.
Our roots are as diverse as they are deep, reflecting the many paths we've traveled and the experiences that have shaped us as business owners and founders. They remind us that diversity is our strength and that our differences are what make us stronger together as a community. So THANK YOU!
Cheers to diversity, inclusion, and the power of our roots,
Kimfer (she/her)
