WHAT I'M READING
—
Come Together: The Science (and Art!) of Creating Lasting Sexual Connections by Emily Nagoski
A book about intimacy and sex that explores Neurodivergent brains, relationships, gender, sexuality, science, and has personal accounts from actually autistic people? Don't mind if I do.
Emily Nagoski brought us two other Kory favs, “Burnout” and “Come as You Are.” She's back, and full of new content since going public with her own Neurodivergence. (Check out her Substack below to read more about her experience with adult diagnosis.)
"My diagnosis was an enormous relief, because
it gave me a coherent structure for thinking about
all the things that are so very, very hard for me
that other people do without effort." -Emily Nagoski
I could not put her latest book down! She dismantles ingrained ideas about intimacy and relationships, empowering readers to create their own frameworks based on their own unique experiences and needs. Through practical strategies, Nagoski helps us see ourselves, our partners, and our connections with greater clarity. Check out chapter 3 on Emotional “Floorplans.” Let me know what you think about "seeking." Emily introduces this pleasure favorable space as a pathway to intimacy for some people. I would add that her description of “seeking” seems to be a common core theme of Autistic connection beyond the bedroom as well. *Mind blown.
This book will get you thinking about relationship imperatives, gender imperatives, pleasure, performance, and confidence imperatives too. And if you'd like to talk more about where this shows up for you and your relationships? I'm here for it!
High five Emily Nagoski. Representation points awarded.
