So, how was uprise born?
Well, I'll give it to you in short story form.
I graduated from Washington State University in St. Louis with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. I then worked in orthopedics for several years in my home state of Missouri. There, I practiced in outpatient settings focusing on spine conditions, orthopedic injuries + rehab, + post surgical. During my time in this space, I was still searching for my true, professional passion.
Hello pelvic health!
I moved across the country to Boston for my husband's career and ended up taking an opportunity to specialize in pelvic health. I took my first of many training courses + I was hooked!
I started treating individuals with chronic pelvic pain, incontinence, constipation, painful intercourse, pregnancy related concerns, + postpartum weakness + pain. I saw lives change before my eyes + I knew I had found what I was looking for.
I worked alongside some outstanding clinicians at Harvard Medical School while treating patients with complex medical issues. What a time in my life!
After the birth of my first little one, I was shocked with the true reality of women's healthcare. Even though I was a medical professional + pelvic health expert at that time; the lack of preparation, intense recovery process without support, and the minimal follow up involved in childbirth left me reeling. After returning from maternity leave, I had to fight with insurance companies to actually get pelvic PT covered for patients who were suffering from life altering pelvic floor dysfunction! I knew there had to be a better path.
Uprise Pelvic Health Physical Therapy was born (in my brain).
When my husband's career again led us across the country, I decided it was the right time to open my own practice and treat in a way that could change the face of women's healthcare in my new community!
