Dear First name / friend,

Today's newsletter launches 5 Daily Practices for a More Creative Life.

Practice #1: Get Specific.

When people think creativity they don’t usually think of planning or being tied to details. But that freewheeling, spontaneous view of creativity is inaccurate. Creative people think in specifics, not generalities.

Most of us gloss over specifics in pursuit of efficiency and speed. We use generic language and pat responses rather than open new avenues for conversation.

We shut down curiosity and exploration out of fear that we'll make things awkward or offend someone. We hesitate when our specificity could define the moment.

But watch what happens when you get more specific about even the smallest things.

(It's action.)

Creative people make specific plans that propel them into specific action. Specificity adds color to their lives and impacts their relationships and their work by setting expectations and boundaries for themselves and others.

Once you shift into specificity regarding small things, like what's for dinner or how you'll spend the hour before bed, you begin over time to be more specific about big things. Like how you think, work, lead, love, and parent.

Getting specific is the first step to a more creative life. Once you have that practice in place, taking the next step—action— becomes easier.
Get Specific!
