A Note from Julie, the Greenhouse Curator: |
|
My husband often kids that I know the locations of all the plant nurseries and garden centers in North Carolina. He's exaggerating, of course, but only a little bit. 😉 This week, I visited one of my favorite shops, The Tiny Greenhouse. I've visited so often that the staff and I are on a first-name basis. I just love these shelves in the shape of a house. The shop owner rotates the plants frequently, making the display different every time I go in. |

Do you ever visit plant nurseries or garden centers, First name / friend? Even if you're not a huge fan of plants, it can be so inspiring to see all the growth going on! |

The phrase toe the line means to conform rigorously to a rule or standard. Think of runners putting their toes on the line before beginning a race.💡 |

This Week's Featured Proofreader or Editor: |
|
The Proofreader Greenhouse asked: - What type of content do you proofread or edit? Books set in France, mysteries, thrillers, historical fiction, memoirs, autobiographies/biographies, web content
- Did you complete a training course for proofreaders, or are you self-taught? I've completed all three CIEP copyediting courses (Introduction, Headway, and Progress) and Louise Harnby's Switching to Fiction course. I'm also constantly reading articles, listening to podcasts, and attending webinars about editing and proofreading.
- What's your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing business? I love so many aspects of my editing business, including the work itself, peripheral tasks (marketing, analysis, etc.), and supporting other editors and authors. I particularly enjoy line-editing fiction set in France, as it brings all my skills and experience together. I also love designing in Canva, whether for marketing, social media, or my website. I don't have a design background, but I love to flex my creative muscles.
- What causes you the most frustration in your business? Not having enough time to do everything I want to do. I have so many plans for offering more resources for editors and authors, but there are only so many hours in the day! I've published two books that are proving quite popular, but I'd love to have more time to spread the word about them to more editors and authors.
- What tips would you like to share with other proofreaders and editors?
A lightbulb moment for me was when I began scheduling “Manager Days” to streamline my business and spend time on non-billable work. This blog post describes the process.

Plant of the Week: Air Plant |
|
It seems that air plants are quite popular lately. I've seen them for sale in so many garden centers. Much to my surprise, a purple flower appeared on the plant in my “lady” vase this week!
The nice thing about air plants is they don't need to be planted in soil, so you can display them in any container. I mist them with filtered water once a week and they seem happy. |
|
The Leaflet will be taking a break next week so I can enjoy some extra time with my son who will be home from college for a few days.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous Easter filled with hope, love, and blessings. May this special day bring you renewed faith and happiness. Happy Easter! |

Let's keep growing together! |
