“We all go through difficult times in our lives. If you could do something to help make one of the most difficult times a little easier for your loved ones, wouldn’t you do it?”
-Kim Sosa
At the amazing event we participated in at
FiftyForward recently,
Kim Sosa shared the story of her mother's service a couple of years ago. Kim had helped in her mom's final years, but after the service, Kim realized that a song her mom loved was left out of the service. She still feels bad about forgetting that one song!
Now, we don't blame Kim at all- and I doubt her mom would either- but situations like Kim's can be easily avoided by having your wishes in writing where your family can find them. Even better if you have them on file with a faith leader or funeral home who will be helping with your service so they can guide your family in a time when they have a lot of thoughts, feelings, and people competing for attention.
This may seem like a dreary task, but it doesn't have to be. Did you see our “Death Planning Bingo” a few months back? It's fun going back and remembering things, choosing your favorite pictures, flowers, poems, etc. This time you're just doing it for someone else!
