Introducing the Altered Altar |
|
Most Artists are not known for completing a project before starting something new, and I am no exception. So, let me introduce you to my newest treasure, a soon-to-be altered, Altar. After several trips to visit it at the Antique Annex in Omaha’s Old Market area, I finally made the investment. I was told this one-of-a-kind find probably originated in a Catholic Church in Duluth, Minnesota and was brought to Omaha, Nebraska by David Shaw, a curator of antiques and fine art. My plan is to fix the broken pieces and then (very lightly) alter it. Should I stick to the Catholic theme or go a bit darker? You decide! |

(If you’re new to my monthly updates, click here for a short background on this exhibit coming up in October.) I’m at an awkward point in the development of my Wicked Plants collection: 1) I want to share more, 2) but shouldn’t until I complete and submit my copyright applications, 3) and can’t do that until I actually finish the artwork. So, I’m going to put on the finishing touches and get my U.S. Copyright applications completed before my update to you in May. Wish me luck! |

From grand displays of nature to quiet moments at home, there is inspiration everywhere: - If you're like me and missed the largest Vermeer exhibition ever, we can still learn about his work through this incredible video showcase of his paintings here.
- I’m super excited for the creation of Thomas Dambo’s troll sculptures which are coming soon to Minnesota. I’ll show you photos after the project is complete in June or July. Meanwhile, you can follow along at www.TrollsDL.com.
- If I could teleport to any location in the world right now, I would go to Bran Castle in Romania. Built in the 14th century in Transylvania, the castle is nicknamed “Dracula’s Castle” for its connection to Bram Stoker’s vampire novel, Dracula. (I will want to teleport back home immediately when the sun sets.)
When teleportation becomes a reality, where would you like to visit? Let me know at carmen@strangefarmgirl.com. Beam me up, Scotty! |
