SFN: How did you learn to narrate audiobooks?
TH: I have had an instinct for narration since my first audiobook. I've done it for over ten years now, and I learn something new every time I read!
SFN: Do you remember your first? (audiobook, that is!)
TH: Teddy's first was Daron's Guitar Chronicles by Cecilia Tan. It was a beautiful M/M title that I was actually ashamed that I used a pseudonym for, because I thought pseudonyms were there to hide behind, and they told me I shouldn't do erotica under my real name, but now that I've seen Teddy Hamilton grow I'm glad I have that one under Teddy.
SFN: How long are your recording days? How do you keep yourself present/fresh/awake...? Do you have to schedule fresh air breaks into your workday to get out of the booth?
TH: I recorded 7 finished hours the other day! I tend to stay fresh by keeping my imagination mentally activated. I'm reading a story so I get into the story! Sometimes I'm tired so I stop, sometimes my voice gets froggy so I stop, sometimes I just don't record at all if I'm not in the right headspace. But usually, I just get going and let the book take me where I need to go!
SFN: Do you recall a specific book you connected with viscerally as a young reader?
TH: I loved comic books as a kid. I had an amazing collection of batman stories that got stolen, and then I never got into collecting again. My first novel was The Lord of the Rings. I used to be a Star Wars fan, but after reading LOTR I became a total nerd for it.
SFN: It's the last day on earth, money is no exception, where are you going, what are you doing and who are you with?
TH: Last day on earth. My last day on earth?? Am I about to die? What happened??? Please surround me with friends and family, and also let me be asleep at the end. The Earth's last day?? like the sun is about to explode or something?? What happened??? Please surround me with friends and family, and also let me be asleep at the end. Or are we about to embark on a grand journey into the stars? Like humans are migrating to some other planet to live on? Let's get drunk (just friends is fine) and blow shit up! My family will be so disappointed when I show up to the shuttle way hungover the next day, but I think they'll understand.
