Le 6 décembre 2023, en visite en Australie nous avons rencontré l'Association de Thalassémie et anémie falciforme du pays (TASCA). Ce regroupement dans le pays de 26 millions d'habitants a partagé les opportunités et les défis auxquels ils sont confrontés, notamment la disponibilité limitée de nouveaux médicaments. Les entreprises pharmaceutiques considèrent l'Australie comme un petit marché, ce qui constitue un défi majeur pour l'amélioration des soins de santé et des options de traitement dans le pays.

Le 16 décembre 2023, notre assemblée générale annuelle et notre célébration de Noël ont attiré plus de 160 membres de la communauté, dépassant ainsi les attentes. L'événement a été marqué par les dons de M. Teddy Homère, qui a remis 5 000 $, et de M. Phémir Édouard, qui a aussi donné 1 500 $. Leur généreux soutien profitera grandement à notre organisation et à la communauté. Nous leur sommes profondément reconnaissants de leur engagement et de leur générosité.

Le 19 janvier 2024, un événement de collecte de fonds et de sensibilisation a été organisé par une jeune étudiante engagée d'une école de la Rive-Sud de Montréal pour soutenir notre association. L'événement a connu un succès retentissant et a permis de récolter environ 600 $. Nous sommes profondément reconnaissants de son initiative et des généreuses contributions de tous les participants.

À LA RENCONTRE DES INFIRMIÈRES
Le 9 février 2024, nous avons organisé une réunion informelle dans les locaux de notre association pour sensibiliser dix infirmières, titulaires d'une licence ou d'une maîtrise, à la prise en charge de l'anémie falciforme . Cet événement a été l'occasion d'un dialogue ouvert et d'un partage d'idées qui nous espérons portera fruit à l'avenir sur cette question de santé cruciale.

DES ÉTUDIANTS EN MÉDECINE POUR LA CAUSE
Le 12 février 2024, nous avons organisé un événement de recrutement à l'Université de Montréal, destiné aux étudiants en médecine, et plus particulièrement aux étudiants noirs de la faculté. Notre objectif était d'attirer l'attention sur le besoin critique d'améliorer les soins aux patients ayant l'anémie falciforme dans cinq cliniques spécialisées.

During our stay in Australia on December 6th 2023, we had the privilege of meeting with the country's Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Association (TASCA). During our time together, they shared with us their opportunities and challenges, including the limited availability of new medicines. Pharmaceutical companies perceive Australia as a small market, which poses a major challenge to improving healthcare and treatment options in the country.

On December 16th 2023, our annual general meeting and Christmas celebration attracted over 160 community members, exceeding expectations. Highlighting the event were substantial donations from Mr. Teddy Homère, who contributed $5,000, and Mr. Phémir Édouard, who added $1,500. Their generous support will greatly benefit our organization and the community. We are deeply grateful for their commitment and generosity.

On January19th 2024, a fundraising and awareness event was organised by a committed young student from a school on the South Shore of Montreal to support our association. The event was a resounding success, raising around $600. We are deeply grateful for her initiative and for the generous contributions of all those who took part.

MEETING WITH NURSES
On February 9th 2024, we organised an informal meeting at our association's premises to raise awareness among ten nurses with a bachelor's or master's degree about the management of sickle cell anaemia. The event provided an opportunity for open dialogue and the sharing of ideas, which we hope will lead to future progress on this crucial health issue.

MEDICAL STUDENTS FOR THE CAUSE
On February 12th 2024, we hosted a recruitment event at the University of Montreal, aimed at medical students, with a particular focus on Black students within the faculty. Our goal was to draw attention to the critical need for enhanced patient care in the area of sickle cell disease across five specialized clinics.

On March 12th, we were delighted to host the annual dinner of the Advisory Committee, bringing together the AAFQ and healthcare professionals. This strategic meeting provided an opportunity to discuss future challenges and opportunities for improving the management of sickle-cell anaemia for our families across the province.
