pssssssst.  Wanna know something amazing that is in the works….
what do you get when you combine three of MY special interests….

AUTISM + THEATER +READING…..

A VERY special role with this show!

If you're not familiar, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime is a fabulous book with an Autistic main character.  It may or may not have been my first toe-dipping into the world of Autism many moons ago.

Colonial Players of Annapolis are presenting this fabulous performance starting on April 26th,  (more details to come)and I can't wait to tell you where I fit in this picture!

They are featuring #actuallyautistic cast members.  And you know how happy that makes me!!!!

I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them.” -Christopher

what is the deal with #actuallyautistic anyway?

Glad you asked!!!

#actuallyautistic is an indicator in social spaces that the creator of the content is…well…actually Autistic themselves.  Many Autistic people didn't agree with the idea that #autism posts were posted by people who did not have lived experience as an Autistic person.  So if you see #actuallyautistic, you know that the creator is sharing first-hand knowledge, and claiming their Autistic identity.

Check out the links below for #actuallyautistic bloggers, and also the Art of Autism website, which CELEBRATES Autistic people and art in a beautiful online space!

Practice what
 you preach!
It turns out….I am not above being human, and will offer this as my “Practice What You Preach” reminder before you start your weekend.

Burnout is real.  Even when we are hyper-focusing on things that bring us joy, we are ALL housed in this human body! Sadly, human bodies, (especially Autistic human bodies) hit their limit eventually.

This is a loving reminder to
take the nap
put down the phone
eat the veggies
do the workout
take the walk
stare out the window
breathe
have some me time
share something vulnerable with a safe person
book the therapy session
take the meds
drink the water
ask for help.  yes, (even you!  We ALL need help.)
pet the dog
send the text
try the new thing

and….connect with someone (even if it's only online).

Take care of yourself by remembering that all of this is important.  I did ALL of these things this week.  And the last thing I wanted to do today was to connect with a new friend for coffee, because I AM TIRED after a long week of running headfirst into too many things that bring me joy.

BUT I DID IT.  And it was lovely.  So, do something you have been avoiding this weekend if it feels good to you. You might be glad you did!

And I'd love to hear about it next week if you'd like to share!

Welcome
to our 3 new retreat peeps!

we would never call you out by name, but we are so excited to add you to the list!
only A few spots left!

From the graphics department: My creative team, (cough cough….husband) took some liberties with our special interest images this week.
