HI Muses and Happy April!!
This month I'm finally speaking more about my work with seniors. Last year, museologie had a great year of growth, and one item on my list was to connect with a senior center. Around April I emailed a non-profit that had a position open for exercise specialist intern. I wasn't in a position to intern, but still emailed the executive director to get more information and by early May, I was working at the non-profit in their fitness center that was provided for the members who were all seniors!
That experience along with my personal training further confirmed that working with seniors, especially in the fitness and physical activity space was aligned for me.
In the fall, I hoped to apply for 2 social impact grants/programs and ultimately I didn't apply, but starting those applications helped me to realize the problem I was addressing (and solutions.) Most importantly, I had an “Aha moment" - the work I'm doing addresses the social determinants of health and health inequity. Aspects I care about, but didn't think that I addressed.
This year, I'm taking a step back and not doing as much because the next step for museologie will be scaling and I need to figure out what looks like. Right now I'm focused on my continuing education credits and making a plan for what it would look like to grow the business and work my other job. I'm watching a series of webinars- one on training the senior spine, one on reverse senior shoulder dysfunction, another on balance training and the third on training after hip and knee replacements. (The information is so good!) I'm considering an accelerator program or a business coach for the 2nd half of the year.
So yeah, 2024 is not as intense, but I'm hoping the work I do *now* will result in meaningful growth in the upcoming years.
Below I added a few general senior fitness tips, but throughout this year, I'll be
sharing more about my work with seniors and how millennials + Gen Z fit into this space, because you do!
Have a great rest of your April and I'll see ya in May!
