News & Updates for the Week of April 15th

THE CROSS - SUBSTITUTION
We started a new series yestereday exploring the spiritual realities that Jesus' death on the cross accomplished for us. Jesus is our substitute. He did not deserve to die – and especially didn't deserve to die as painfully and shamefully as he did. Each of us were the ones that deserved to die that death. But because of the love of God, Jesus was sent to live the life we were supposed to live – and that we failed to live – and to die the the death that we deserved. As our substitute, Jesus removes the death penalty from us and takes it on himself. And in so doing, he gives us his perfect record and restores our relationship with God that was tainted by sin. This work of Jesus is applied through faith, not through earning, but through receiving what he has done. The more we understand this reality, the more we worship God out of gratitude rather than spending our energies trying to earn the love that we have already been offered.
