SFN: What or who inspires you as an artist?
HJ: Other romance authors inspire me. This gig isn't easy, but man, there are so many women kicking butt and taking names in this industry that I can't help but be in awe.
SFN: How long do you spend writing? How do you keep yourself present/fresh/awake...?
HJ: I try to write a bit in the mornings before work and then for about 45 minutes to an hour at night. It's harder in the evening when my brain is mush after teaching high school math all day BUT I would rather get words down and be able to edit them than get nothing down at all.
SFN: As a reader, do you have a trick to pull yourself out of a book slump?
HJ: Re-read a favorite book OR read from an author I know will deliver.
SFN: What's your favorite part of the writing process?
HJ: I love writing the first draft and sending it to my beta readers for feedback. I do enjoy writing dialogue though. My stories are very dialogue heavy and character driven, but getting the story out of my head and getting the initial feedback is my favorite part.
SFN: How did you find the narrators for your most recent audiobook? What made you choose him/her/them?
HJ: I asked my readers who they loved listening too and who they thought would be good for characters. Connor Crais was perfect for Grant with his swoony voice, and CJ Bloom brought the endearing quality to Noelle that makes her so relatable.
SFN: What made you want to publish your books in audio?
HJ: Reader demand AND bringing the stories to life in a new way!
