It Takes a Village to Grow a Business

Spring has finally sprung! The day prior to Easter, while engaged in our family tradition of dyeing eggs, a moment of reflection swept over me, an acknowledgement of the journey my husband and I have undertaken, both as parents and entrepreneurs. Observing our two children enthusiastically mixing vinegar and color tablets in random containers across the countertop, memories of our maiden egg-dyeing venture with our eldest daughter flooded back. Due to both of our Type A personas—my background as a psychologist and my husband's as a dentist, we had meticulously planned this first egg dyeing experience. Our kitchen table and chairs were meticulously draped in protective towels, our daughter adorned in a paint smock, with her tiny hands enveloped in oversized nitrile gloves from the dental clinic. With bated breath, we monitored her every move, hoping to contain any potential mess while likely micro-managing her egg-dyeing efforts.

Fast forward to this recent Easter, where our children eagerly took charge of the operation, resulting in a minor mess that didn’t bother us at all. The stark contrast between these experiences elicited a heartfelt and well-deserved pat on the back for our evolution into more composed and relaxed parents. Rest assured, we still have work to do in achieving this calm state with all situations!  For this we explore parenting podcasts, child development training, and self-care strategies.  Undoubtedly, parallels can be drawn between our parenting journey and our endeavors as business owners. In our early business years, we sought to micromanage every detail, avoiding external support and choosing to deal with challenges alone, all the while experiencing unnecessary anxiety. Such feelings can easily resurface with every significant new chapter we embark upon, both personally and professionally.  But in our wiser years, we have evolved to more quickly navigate the decision making process and look to those around us who can provide expertise in the areas we may be lacking.  Our businesses have grown, our team has grown, and the network with which we rely on has grown.  If we had only leaned in to those experts and supporters all around us sooner, we could have had a more linear road to success!

Whatever challenge you're currently navigating, bear in mind that fostering a supportive community can transform the journey from merely enduring to genuinely enjoyable. Should you encounter obstacles along the path that could benefit from a sympathetic ear or guidance from a trusted healthcare resource, rest assured that I am honored to stand by your side and contribute to your journey in any way I can.  Over the past few years, it has been exciting and encouraging to build a network of healthcare professionals I know that I can rely on to serve clients with needs that fall outside of the scope of my expertise and I love connecting people who can benefit from knowing one another.  So please don’t stress about “dyeing those eggs,” reach out to work smarter not harder and allow that village to support you in thriving!
