There are three weeks left until the last bell of this year’s legislative session. Many legislators don’t realize that school breakfasts and lunches for eligible students are not in next year’s budget.
If they don’t act to include school meals in the budget, we will lose no-cost breakfast and lunches for eligible kids. When school starts in August, families over income limits (gross income over $39,000 for a family of 4) will be charged for all meals regardless of need. Currently, breakfast counts are up, and tardiness and absenteeism are down.
