Doctors for America (DFA) was founded in 2009 to unite doctors and medical students in prioritizing patient well-being over political interests to enhance the nation's health. Similarly, the National Physicians Alliance (NPA) emerged in 2005 to foster physician involvement in communities for improved healthcare accessibility. In 2019, recognizing shared goals, NPA merged with DFA for amplified impact. The Founders Awards, inaugurated in 2021, commemorate the organizations' commitment to patient advocacy. This year, the awards include categories such as Medical Student Advocate, Resident/Fellow Advocate, Physician Advocate, Retired Physician Advocate, Copello Fellow, and Health Advocate. Nominations for these honors, open to self or others, will culminate in recognition at DFA’s National Leadership Conference on June 7, 2024.
