If you’re into art, theater, music or dance, you’ll find something to love when The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University and the Tri-County Arts Council team up to present QCA Collage, a mixed-bag of visual and performing arts programming at the Quick Center on Saturday, April 20. Activities will take place inside and outside the Quick Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Events include an art exhibit, demonstration and sale by local artists like John Balacki, Maureen Bernas, Amanda Hulbert, Nicole Missel, Brad Mitchell, and Eileen Weishan. Hosted by the Tri-County Arts Council, an advocate for art creation and appreciation in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Allegany counties, this event will take place outside the Quick Center, weather permitting. Inside, Quick Center galleries and common spaces will bustle with musical and dance performances, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. In the Dresser Foundation Gallery, visual and performing arts students and faculty will present theatrical and musical performances inspired by the gallery’s paintings. These performance art presentations will take place three times throughout the day. Participants will be able to paint their own masterpiece from the University Art Collection and visit the Asian Gallery to make origami animals. There will also be a pottery exhibition and a pottery-throwing demonstration. Airigami, of Rochester, New York, a team of artists who create large-scale installations, illustrations, and experiences entirely out of balloons, will enlist the help of attendees to create a balloon mural. Peter Jones is a renowned potter. He studied under Hopi artist Otellie Loloma while attending the Institute of American Indian Art in New Mexico. His pottery is admired and collected by community members, Native American art collectors, and museums across the country and internationally. A poem can be found anywhere. In this class, we’ll go looking for them. In headlines, in crossword puzzles, in paintings, under tables, and through doors. It’s a myth to think that you have to be “inspired” to write poetry. All you have to do is pay attention. Bring an open mind and your favorite notebook, a pen or pencil. We can supply you with paper or writing supplies if you need. Two hour instruction covering wildlife photography for the beginner. The class covers the basics of photography, camera settings for wildlife photos, and tips and tricks from a professional. Instructor is Dan Jordan, local professional photographer, who specializes in wildlife photography. Dan’s award winning images are frequently published in the Olean Times Herald, Bradford Era, and Wellsville Sun newspapers. His works have been used in marketing materials by the National Eagle Center and other wildlife refuges and parks. Bring your cameras to the session! The goal of the Wheel Throwing class is to provide students with a general understanding of basic beginner level throwing techniques such as: centering, pulling walls, trimming, and glazing.
