A Note from Julie, the Greenhouse Curator: |
|
Hi, First name / friend! I'm so excited that after living in our house for three years, I finally have an outdoor proofreading space on our small deck. It includes some plants, of course! Now that the weather is warmer, I'll be out there frequently, I suspect.
Do you ever work on business tasks outdoors? Or do you prefer to work indoors? Please reply to this email to let me know! |

In last week's newsletter, I asked what kind of project organization tool you use for your proofreading or editing work. Here are the results: 👇🏻 |
|
I have to admit that I was surprised at the high percentage of folks who use a paper system to keep up with their projects. I guess it depends on the type of work you do and your personal preferences. The survey is still open if you want to weigh in. |

Several months ago, I created a free resource called The Proofreading Toolkit. If you're a member of The Proofreader Greenhouse, the PDF is already available in your account. Just log in and look in the My Products tab. Or you can get it here. I've decided to expand my list to include all of the digital and analog tools I use as a proofreader. I don't know about you, but I love learning what websites, apps, software, and tools people use to make their processes more convenient and effective. While I'm working on the resource, I'd love to hear what tools you use in your proofreading or editing work. Would you take a moment to reply to this email and let me know your favorite digital or analog tools? Here are some ideas: - software you use in your proofreading or editing work
- tools that help you stay organized
- apps that you love
- tools that help you manage your time
- physical tools you use while proofreading or editing
I can't wait to hear from you! ✨ |

Diffusion occurs when particles spread out from an area of high concentration to low concentration. To defuse is to break something apart that was previously fused or joined together.💡 |

This Week's Featured Proofreader or Editor: |
|
Evalyn from Morpho Proofing |
|
The Proofreader Greenhouse asked: - What type of content do you proofread or edit? Nonfiction, fiction, theology, social media
- Did you complete a training course for proofreaders, or are you self-taught? I took The Proofreading Business Coach’s General Proofreading course to kickstart my business. I'm currently training with Proofread Anywhere to be a transcript proofreader.
- What's your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing business? It’s an opportunity to do what I love for business: reading other people’s work and helping them make progress with it. The supportive editing/proofing/writing community on social media is a great bonus!
- What causes you the most frustration in your business? The lack of structure is the most frustrating part for me. As wonderful as it is to be my own boss, I also love following directions and playing a supportive role. While being an editor/proofreader offers a great way to be a supporter, the part where you have to run your own business relies on you to set your own pace and be a solo leader. That can be a challenge for someone like me who loves progress and productivity! As a new business, I have to remember to be okay with where I am and be proud of myself along the way.
- What tips would you like to share with other proofreaders and editors?
I love scheduling my time with Asana. It helps me progress in my business.
I advise anyone with your own proofreading and editing business to stay true to yourself and offer what only you can give. That's been the key that's paid off the most for me. People want to hire me because I’m me and no one else. Your business starts and ends with what only you can offer!

Plant of the Week: Golden Pothos |
|
I just told someone this week how much I love pothos plants. They're so easy to care for, and they're not too picky about light or moisture. There's almost always at least one new leaf on my plant. I love that!
Because of the popularity of these plants, they're sold in so many stores. You can sometimes even buy them in grocery stores that have a floral section! |

Let's keep growing together! |
