April Prompt 2 Check-In
REPURPOSE
One of the things I love to do when it comes to prompts and inspiration is to look towards things that aren't art related at all--I think it helps to expand our perspectives and can spark ideas that we normally wouldn't have.

For repurpose, I found this article 76 Hacks For Repurposing Random Old Household Items that I wanted to share with you. Hack #2, using a chain to create perfect circles, is actually something we could use in our art but looking through this list makes me see things that can be used instead of brushes, items to collage, and random things to stamp with. (Hack #28 is putting socks on your hands to clean the blinds--it's making me wonder what it'd be like to put socks on our hands and paint!) I hope there's something in there that peaks your interest and also, there really are some handy hacks!

And here is some more inspiration from the latest pieces that have been created within our community.

INSPIRATION FROM OUR COMMUNITY

ā€œSpring is here and everything blooms. Perfect time to try my hand with jelly gouache. Inspired by van gogh almond blossoms.ā€ - SABRINA

ā€œSpring. A time to ā€œfree your soulā€ and #Grow according to Mr #tompetty. Inspiration for this weekā€™s #creativesparknl was Tomā€™s quote and the word GROW from @atiliay. For me, the beautiful SoCal blooms have a way of bring out there best in all of us.ā€ - KAREN

ā€œFor ā€˜environmentā€™ I did a cityscape with two colors I've been thinking about using ever since seeing some beautiful prints in my mother's doctor's office! A bright yellow green and a blue! I did the background with a knife and when that dried I filled my brush with blue and painted the buildings in one go. I'm always pleased when my brush strokes show no hesitation and no seam between thought and motion! It was a fast simple painting which felt good as I've been collaging so much!!ā€ - CLAUDIA

ā€œThis one made me emotional. I started with a lot of junk, old calendars and some withered tullips. In my old agenda I found all the appointments I had last year around this time. Every block scheduled around my child and his therapies. Every week another fight to find the support and accommodation he needs. I found the letter I took to the hospital the day I was admitted. I couldn't talk, couldn't do anything other than sob and scream. It was a crumpled piece of paper asking for help with a crisis .I barely remember how I got there. But I made it and I was taken seriously and was admitted, staying 3 months in the psychiatric ward trying to get myself together to be the mother my beautiful child deserved. What started a funny light project became a personal collage of resilience, finding purpose and growth. I'm gonna save this one hoping the tullip petals dry nicely.ā€ - SABRINA

ā€œI imagined the beautiful rain clouds weā€™ve seen over the past few weeks and this is where I landed. I like my initial layout in Blue. Not sure I like how adding colors to outline how billowy the clouds really were worked out but I did have lots of fun with this one.ā€ - KAREN

ā€œFor ā€˜repurposeā€™ I took the cover of a program from a puppet show I brought my granddaughter to and colored it in! I also repurposed a little piece of plastic (a pull tab from under the lid of a container) to make the coloring page look like a snow globe! I mostly have stayed out of the coloring book craze but I had fun coloring this page using different color sharpies and markers!!ā€ - CLAUDIA

We have a short break then the next prompt will be sent out on May 10th. Feel free to use this time to catch up (that's what I'll be doing!), rest, check out the resource library (link below), or revisit past prompts if you'd like to continue creating.

I'm looking forward to sharing the next prompt and art movement--this movement was the one that was listed the most when asked which ones you were most interested in!

Talk to you soon,
