May 2024
April was another busy month for Kansas Forest Service staff and our partners! We celebrated Kansas Arbor Day, on April 26th, at the Capital. Kansas Arbor Day Poster Contest winner, Angel Salter, a 5th grade student from Osage City, celebrated with our staff and partners.

More than 400 trees were given away in Kansas and Missouri as replacements for the invasive Callery pear. These events would not be possible without our many partners and enthusiastic participation from the public. We hope to expand this program into more Kansas communities in coming years. Stay tuned for opportunities to weigh in on future buyback events!

Several staff members joined hundreds of other Kansans who responded after the recent tornado in Westmoreland. Their mission was to lend a hand felling and chunking up trees that were damaged. It's humbling to see how Kansans help each other in times of need. We are thankful to be a part of such a wonderful community of people!
