Thermography is very sensitive to thermal changes and anomalies. Some physiological patterns associated with early breast diseases cannot be felt or seen with structural imaging. Thermography assesses the entire breast and armpit (lymphatic) area. It provides you with clear scoring, risk rating and clinical comments. You receive a copy of your report and your technician explains it to you. Thermography can detect changes in breast tissue up to 5 years before there is a structural change detectable with mammograms or ultrasound.
Appointments are currently available weekly in London, Norwich, Aylmer, Dorchester and Woodstock.
Goderich, Tillsonburg Windsor, Sarnia and Petrolia appts are available on specified dates
What is Thermography?
Thermography is medical imaging that measures the infrared radiation (heat) emitted from the surface of your skin. Thermography does not expose you to any radiation, it is painless and there is no tissue trauma. The strength of thermography as a health assessment tool is its ability to detect and track minor physiological changes over time. Heat can indicate inflammation, injury, disease, infection and/or metabolic or vascular activity/changes.
These early physiological changes most often precede anatomical/structural changes. Breast Thermography is generally done annually, and is graded from TH1 to TH5, TH1 being normal and TH5 being highest risk. Your first imaging session establishes your unique baseline.
We offer breast, cranial/ dental/thyroid and total-body imaging.
Total-Body imaging is performed annually; your entire body is imaged from your face to your feet. A few conditions total-body thermography can help identify include TMJ dysfunction, dental infections, hypo/hyperthyroidism, spinal inflammation, unusual thermal patterns in the chest/back/abdomen, arthritis, vascular and blood-flow anomalies, asymmetrical inflammation, soft-tissue and muscle damage irritation, injuries and much more.
Breast, Cranial/Dental/Thyroid and Total-Body imaging are available at Trillium Thermography
At Trillium Thermography we believe in empowering you with knowledge.
The more you know about your body, the better decisions you and your healthcare provider can make.
Our goal is to provide a professional, warm clinical imaging experience followed by an informative thermography report that will leave you and your healthcare providers with a valuable comparative assessment tool.
Using standardized clinical protocols, pre-imaging prep, and environmental controls, we ensure conditions can be reproduced year after year for the most accurate results at all our locations.
The key benefit of thermography as a health assessment lies in routine monitoring and assessment of your unique body over time.
The Thermography Process - What to expect:
Before your appointment you will receive an appointment confirmation email with directions to the clinic of choice, imaging instructions as well appropriate history forms which need to be filled out . These forms will be provided as secure adobe document links to simply click and open. If you have trouble please contact us immediately and we can provide your forms another way. These forms along with the pre-imaging instruction form need to be signed and brought to your appointment. Please read through ALL the information attached to your appointment confirmation. We accept cash, cheque, or credit-card (no debit) . Please Note: We cannot submit claims to insurance, yet encourage you to do so if applicable. An official receipt for income tax purposes or extended health care will be emailed (or in regular mail if requested).
All imaging is done after 15 minutes of acclimating (getting the tissues used to the temperature of the room). Thermography requires disrobing to adequately image the various areas of the body. No watches, jewelry or dangling hair are allowed (clips will be provided). Total-body involves wearing a patient gown and areas disrobed as they are imaged. It is important that no touching, scratching, poking etc. of the skin occurs during acclimation and imaging. You will be reminded during the appointment.
For Breast Thermography, the Functional Study or cold challenge is a vital component. You will submerge your hands in 10 degree water for 1 minute after which all images are repeated. The changes in the vasculature of the breast are analyzed. If you have Raynaud’s disease please let us know before your appointment (characterized by extreme pain when extremities feel slight cold).
Reports arrive electronically from the Board-Certified Clinical Thermologist within 10 business days. Holidays are taken into consideration regarding reporting deadlines.
An email titled ‘Your Thermography Report’ will alert you that your Thermography Report has been emailed to you. Hard copies are mailed out bi-weekly. We call or text you to confirm you have received your report and arrange some time to explain the report structure to you and answer any questions you may have.
Please note that mammography and thermography cannot replace each other OR self-exams. We strongly recommend self-exams, thermography and any structural imaging recommended by your doctor.
Thermography, mammograms and ultrasound are not diagnostic, only a biopsy can diagnose breast cancer.
