May was brimming with incredible musical events! From the 2024 Spring Recitals and a thrilling Rock Band show at the Rebel Lounge to the AZ Study Program Piano Competition, there was so much to celebrate!

Join us for a super groovy Summer Musical Challenge! All students who participate in the challenge will earn an invite to a Groovy Summer Skate Party at Skateland on July 21st! *Registration is required

On May 12th a group of MMW students competed in a statewide competition and ALL SIX of them achieved the highest scores possible, superior with honors. 
Congratulations to these hard working, dedicated students!!

In June's Podcast, meet saxophone student and former US Olympic Wrestler, John Matthews. John Shares his journey through the discipline of sport to the creativity of playing saxophone! Q: What is your favorite part of taking music lessons at Music Makers?
A:I like my teacher Mrs Tina.  She makes classes very interesting. 

Q: What is your favorite song to play and why?
A: My favorite song to play is “ Dolls Dream and Awakening “ because it has different parts which make it hard and fun.

Q: What inspired you to take music lessons?
A: I love playing the piano and sharing it with people. I also want to improve my piano skills and play better.

Q: Most memorable musical moment?
A:My first recital :).           
          
Q: What are your future musical goals?  
A: My future musical goal is to play“ Incantation” by D. Hicken. 
 
Q: Which famous musician would you choose to meet?
A: I would want to meet David Hicken. 
 
Q: What are three fun facts about yourself?
A:  My favorite color is green. I like playing the piano and have a YouTube channel. I study 2 foreign languages ( Russian and Mandarin).

Q: What is your favorite part of taking music lessons at Music Makers?
A: Everyone has been so welcoming! Dr. Kuo is wonderful. She challenges and encourages me.
 
Q: What is your favorite song to play and why?
A: When I’m making progress learning a new song, at that moment, it’s my favorite song to play.

Q: What inspired you to take music lessons?
A: I needed to get out of my comfort zone. I’m a hospice nurse and I wanted to learn something new and different. 

Q: Most memorable musical moment?
A: Mustering up the courage to sign up for piano lessons!                                                                                                                                    
Q: What are your future musical goals? 
A: Just enjoy the process and see where it takes me.                                                                                                                
Q: Which famous musician would you choose to meet?
A:  David Bowie

Q: What are three fun facts about yourself?
A:  I practice yoga and enjoy watching hummingbirds. I love music and fashions from the late 1960’s/ early 70’s.

Q: What is your favorite part of taking music lessons at Music Makers? 
A: I love when I’m almost finished learning a song and I get to hear myself play the whole thing.
 
Q: What is your favorite song to play and why? 
A: My favorite song to play is Rage Over a Lost Penny by Beethoven. I like how it’s fast and energetic. 
 
Q: What inspired you to take music lessons? 
A: My dad! He loves to play and listen to music, which made want to learn as well. 
 
Q: Most memorable musical moment? 
A:  The moment when I finish playing my song at a recital. I like hearing the final notes ring out.

Q: What are three fun facts about yourself?
A:  My favorite snack is Babybel cheese. I love Cinnamoroll. My family and I like to go to national parks.

Q: What is your favorite part of taking music lessons at Music Makers?
A: Learning how to play from Dr. Steve and listening to his stories

Q: What is your favorite song to play and why?
A: Right now, I like to play Metal Militia by Metallica because it is fast tempoed. 

Q: What inspired you to take music lessons?
A: I started listening to rock music and was into the guitar riffs.

Q: Most memorable musical moment?
A:  Going to my first Metallica concert and being pointed out in the stands by Kirk Hammett.
 
Q: What are your future musical goals? 
A: To be a lead guitarist in a band and continue learning as much as I can with my guitar. 
 
Q: Which famous musician would you choose to meet?
A:  There are many musicians I would like to meet such as Prince, Kirk Hammett, Eddie Van Halen, Chuck Schuldiner, Dave Grohl, and Dave Mustaine (whom I will be meeting in August).

Q: What are three fun facts about yourself?
A: I am a competitive figure skater. I have been learning Mandarin for 3 years and will enter my freshman year at Desert Vista in Honors Mandarin 3. In my downtime I like to learn all about my favorite musicians and bands by watching documentaries and reading magazines.
