A Note from Julie, the Greenhouse Curator:

Hi, First name / friend! I'm not sure why this surprised me so much, but this week I was so excited to discover that my weeping cherry tree that I told you about back in Issue 23 of The Leaflet actually has cherries on it!

We've lived in this house for three years, and I've never noticed cherries on the tree before. They're tiny (and I've read that they're inedible for humans), but they're just so cute! Maybe the birds will enjoy eating them. 🍒

Catch of the Week:

Tenant and tenet sound so similar, don't they? We have to watch carefully for this error in our proofreading, editing, or copywriting work. A tenant is a person or entity that occupies land or property rented from a landlord. A tenet is a principle, belief, or doctrine that is held to be true, especially by a particular group or organization. 💡

This Week's Featured Proofreader or Editor:
Irene Stenger Proofreading

The Proofreader Greenhouse asked:
  • What type of content do you proofread or edit? Fiction, non-fiction including transcripts for legal proceedings
  • Did you complete a training course for proofreaders, or are you self-taught? I completed a general proofreading course through Knowadays, and I freelance at Proofed. I trained with Elizabeth Wiegner, The Proofreading Business Coach. Every project is an opportunity for personal growth and skill development.
  • What's your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing business? It's like a perfect blend of work and play because I get to indulge in one of my passions: reading. Each day in this industry offers a chance for personal growth and skill development. I'm learning a great deal from people's stories, both fictional and real, such as transcripts and personal experiences.
  • What causes you the most frustration in your business? It can be challenging to cope with the feast-famine roller coaster of being a freelance proofreader.
  • What tips would you like to share with other proofreaders and editors?
It's never too late to learn or take on new challenges. Stay humble, be kind, and be true.

Plant of the Week: Hoya Pubicalyx

This plant gets plenty of natural light on the windowsill of my dining room. Its leaves are thick and waxy. Plants of this variety can produce gorgeous flowers, but mine hasn't flowered yet. Maybe someday. 🤞🏻

Let's keep growing together!
