You know, I was not a fan of most of the looks from the MET gala this year. It felt like there was a wide interpretation of the theme and when you step back and view all the looks, it was disjointed across the board.
But the men and non-binaries brought their A game! My standouts were Jeremy Strong and Colman Domingo. Just clean and perfectly tailored. The photographers did Jeremy a favour when they decided to crop his feet from most of their shots. The black dress shoes were not it!
And then there was Cole Escola who was very much giving Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth minus their signature black Rockport sneakers. I love/hate the look or maybe it's Catholic school trauma but it makes me chuckle every time I see the photo. And finally, Harris Reed, who rarely gets it wrong. Simply gorgeous and divine! We need a Birth of Venus look from Harris next.
Based on a true story, Hulu's Under the Bridge tells the story of Reena Virk, a 14 year old girl from British Columbia, Canada, who was murdered by her classmates and peers in 1997.
The series, featuring Lily Gladstone and Vritika Gupta, explores bullying but the even larger impact of race and identity in Canada's POC communities and its subsequent impact on Reena's murder investigation. I believe 5 out of the 8-episode series have dropped as of today. The series is good but hard to watch given the tragic nature of the story.
As I watched the first four episodes, I kept thinking to myself, “Wow, I'll need to home school my kids one day." Did we have assholes in high school? Yes. Incredibly racist and homophobic teachers as well. But did I ever think students were capable of killing each other? Absolutely not. Unless I was living in my own little bubble. Parents, how do you handle this today?
I'm always amused when Western publications write on such situations as being uniquely “Communist”, as if women's rights aren't under attack right here in the US. The secret, underground gatherings? Yea, they're taking place here, too.
A rather depressing but necessary listen on the impact of rising ocean temperatures. David Gelles and Raymond Zhong, who both cover climate for The New York Times, delve into what we can expect in the future should Atlantic meridional overturning circulation or AMOC collapse.
In one example, the UK could face arctic-like temperatures. The commentators made note it would take a century for such a collapse to occur but I feel we've seen events unfold on a much more accelerated timeline these days. 🥶
