Colleen Barry, ‘Light My Sky'

To our Brooklyn Editions Community:

It has been far too long. It's May and this is our Spring Newsletter. We know. But in our defense it took a while for it to start really feeling like Spring here in New York and it's been a bit busy. Since the start of 2024 we've met and worked with so many new people, we've been a part of a range of incredible projects, and overall… yeah, just done a whole lot of printing.

It was difficult picking what to put in this newsletter. But without further delay, here are our highlights and announcements from this season.

NEW RELEASE:
Colleen Barry, Light My Sky
Time-Limited Edition, May 8 - May 15

If you haven't heard us rave about Colleen Barry's work before, welcome! You must be new here. Our studio has released many editions with the artist over the years, and we are thrilled to be back again with Light My Sky.

This is a time-limited edition available to collect from May 8 - May 15, 2024 on the Brooklyn Editions Print Store only. Once the collection period ends, this edition will be capped.

UPCOMING:
Loft Law: Photographs by Joshua Charow at Westwood Gallery, May 16 - June 29

Our studio has been working with New York-based documentary photographer and filmmaker Joshua Charow to produce his upcoming solo exhibition at Westwood Gallery opening May 16.

Curated by James Cavello, Loft Law: Photographs by Joshua Charow is an expansive exploration of the spaces and people still protected under Article 7-C of the Multiple Dwelling Law, also known as the Loft Law, which extended rent stabilization and rights towards individuals living illegally in manufacturing and commercially zoned lofts. Amongst many of these individuals were artists. The Loft Law went on to shape the arts and cultural history of New York.

The exhibition will feature a short documentary and photographs taken by Joshua Charow. Alongside his work, the exhibition will include artworks from select Loft Law artists:

Carmen Cicero, Loretta Dunkelman, Betsy Kaufman, Kimiko Fujimura, Joseph Marioni, Carolyn Oberst, Marsha Pels, Gilda Pervin, Steve Silver, Mike Sullivan, and Jeff Way.

Lastly, the exhibition will be accompanied by Charow's book Loft Law: The Last of New York City’s Original Artist Lofts, published by Damiani Books.

The exhibition opens at Westwood Gallery next Thursday, May 16 and runs until June 29, 2024.
FEATURING:
BKX & Jamie Orr Artist Spotlight

If you caught our collaboration with Hahnemühle late last month, you'll know that we recently worked with two select artists, Jamie Orr and Dawit N.M. to produce a reel printing on Hahnemühle's Natural Line Bamboo papers.

Beyond what the short reels showed, we captured more footage with the artists that we have gone on to edit into longer videos. We are happy to share the first of these extended cuts with Jamie Orr, where she talks about painting, location, and marketing as an independent artist.

FROM THE
BKX STUDIO

As we progress through the year, and into the summer over the next few months, we hope to continue bringing you more things. It feels as if the fruits of the labor we put in last year in getting our new website off the ground, launching this newsletter, our sponsorship circuit, and being more active online, are really blooming.

We are so grateful for our community who has stuck with us on this ride.
