Summer is almost here,
and I'm so ready for it
I don’t know about you First name / Friend, but June always feels like the end of a year to me. Maybe it’s all the years I spent in school, or maybe it’s all the years I spent parenting kids in school. But that September - June cycle is pretty ingrained in my system now. So it feels like I’m about to have a 2 month vacation. (To be clear, I am not about to have a 2 month vacation. My body and brain just haven’t caught on yet.)

Earlier this week I had dinner with my high school bestie. We recently reconnected after not having seen each other for probably 25 years. Can we all just say a little hallelujah for those relationships that were forged in such foundational years that no history or context is necessary? It is a special kind of magic when you already know all that old stuff that informs all the more recent stuff. After spending a couple of hours together, eating great food on a patio at the beach and catching up, my heart was incredibly full.

As it turns out, summer wasn’t great timing for many of you for Encore: The Performance Incubator. I get it - summer often brings unpredictable schedules and lots of travel plans. So we’re considering offering it in either September or January of the coming year. If you’re someone who is interested, can you do me a favour? Hit reply and let me know whether September or January is better for you, or if either one is good. It’s not a commitment. It’s simply a good way for me to gauge interest and timing before setting all the wheels in motion.

The upside is that I had 2 hours a week set aside in my schedule for Encore that has now freed itself up. Which means that I have the space to take on 2 new or returning private 1:1 students. If you or someone you know is looking for private vocal coaching that is a combo of technique, performance coaching, and all around artist and growth coaching, let’s talk.

What do you have planned for this summer? Does it feel like you’re about to take a 2 month vacation too? Are you lucky enough to be actually taking a 2 month vacation?
happy ALMOST SUMMER!
Sara

This week on the podcast, I interviewed Jonny Tobin, Grammy and Juno nominated keyboardist & producer. We had a great conversation! Here's a snapshot of the juicy goodness inside the interview:
  • Understanding the history and cultural roots of different music genres is important for artists to create music that is respectful and authentic.
  • Building relationships and collaborating with others in the industry can open doors and lead to career opportunities.
  • There is no one right way to approach songwriting and production; artists should find what works best for them.
  • Creating a positive and enjoyable studio environment can enhance the creative process and lead to better results.
  • Having a clear vision and deadline for finishing a song is important to avoid getting stuck in endless revisions and perfectionism.
  • Take care of yourself on tour by choosing the right people to travel with and prioritizing your well-being.
  • When working with other artists, communicate clearly and be open to collaboration and new ideas.
  • Utilize social media as a portfolio to showcase your music and engage with your audience.
  • Give your music enough time before release to ensure it can be pitched to editorial playlists and reach a wider audience.
  • Take time for rest and self-care to avoid burnout and maintain longevity in your career.
  • Enjoy your own music and create music that you love listening to.
