Welcome to the University of Rochester!
As a member of the class of 2028, you are joining an exciting global community of people dedicated to making the world ever better. Let's get you ready for Rochester!

Please note: This email was sent to both your personal and University of Rochester email addresses. Moving forward, make sure to check your UR email account regularly, as that will be the address we (and other University offices) will use to send you information.

Save the date!
Our website includes a list of important dates for incoming students, including when you can register for fall classes, when academic advising begins this summer, and the dates of Fall Welcome Week. The fall arrival days (Monday, August 19 and Tuesday, August 20) are also included on this page. You’ll be assigned to one of these dates in early July when your housing assignment is finalized and sent to you. Make sure to review these dates now and add them to your own calendar.

Here's an overview of your orientation program.
Our orientation program is required for all incoming students and consists of two parts:

1. Rochester Ready: Designed to introduce you to University academics and student life, this online orientation program consists of four components to be finished over the summer, before you arrive on campus in August.
  1. Complete the new student checklist.
  2. Watch the required resource videos and complete the corresponding modules.
  3. Connect with your academic advisors and register for your fall classes.
  4. Get to know your Orientation Leaders and incoming classmates.

2. Fall Welcome Week: Connect with other incoming students, learn to navigate campus and academics, and celebrate some of our unique University of Rochester traditions from Monday, August 19 through Saturday, August 24.

Whew! That was a lot of information.
We get it – there are a lot of things to do this summer before you arrive on campus. Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. The new student checklist on our website is a comprehensive guide to all the required items you need to complete before your first semester begins (as well as some fun optional activities).

Take a moment to check out the list now, as your first task (completing your housing and dining contract form) is due Monday, June 3. You'll also be able to add the dates and deadlines from the checklist to your own personal calendar, using our checklist calendar subscription.

Here's how we'll connect this summer.
In addition to the new student checklist and the other resources on our website, here are the other ways you can expect to connect with us and other incoming first-year students throughout the summer:

Rochester Ready newsletters: This newsletter will start sending to you in early June (along with whoever you’ve added as your parent or guardian in UR Student). Full of important resources and upcoming deadlines, you’ll want to be sure to review each issue. (But if you happen to miss one, they will be posted on our website, too.)

Orientation Leaders: You will be assigned one of our awesome Orientation Leaders (who will be introducing themselves soon on Instagram!) They'll be your point of contact throughout the summer for questions and will help connect you with other incoming students through fun online activities.

Instagram: Your Orientation Leaders will be taking over the @urorientation Instagram account this summer to give you insider tips, sneak peeks of campus, and help get you excited for August.

Discord: Connect with fellow incoming students on a private Discord server, managed by the Admissions team, our office, and your Orientation Leaders.

Welcome Celebrations: Meet other incoming students at these in-person and virtual events throughout the summer. Your parents and families are invited, too!

UR FOOT: Also known as the UR First-Year Orientation Outing Treks, this beloved pre-semester program, exclusive to incoming first-year students, gives you the opportunity to move in early in August and spend a few days exploring the greater Rochester area’s natural beauty. Spots are limited to the first 100 people to sign up when registration opens on Saturday, June 1 at 9 a.m. (EDT).

We're here for you.
Our team is available Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (EDT) at orientation@rochester.edu to assist with any questions or concerns you may have.

P.S. You can totally just spend this summer making memories with your family and high school friends, but if you want to get a head start on classes too, you’ve got the chance! Incoming students can take up to two courses online at the summer credit rate. Learn more about the course offerings and how to get registered before Session B classes start on Monday, July 1
