Hey, First name / friends!
I just wrapped up a trip to my old stomping grounds of Playa del Carmen, Mexico where I spent a good chunk of my time in 2020 and 2021.

So much of my portfolio is inspired by tropical destinations like this, so I thought it would be fun to do a tropical challenge this week!

#CreateWithCatCoq - Monstera
Your challenge this week is to create an illustration or pattern with a monstera leaf as the main subject. These funky, tropical, Swiss-cheese plants have been popular for the past few years, and the trend isn't slowing down any time soon. Plus, tropical motifs are always good sellers, so this is a great one to add to your portfolio.

If you're wondering where to start, I have two step-by-step tutorials for how to draw monstera leaves on my blog. You can follow along to create your tropical masterpiece!

I loved painting this in watercolor. Watching the colors on each segment of the leaf bloom in unexpected ways is just so fun and relaxing!

We've done monstera challenges in the past, so if you already have this motif in your portfolio, I encourage you to mix things up and give your monsteras a colorful spin. Try turning your illustration into a colorful pattern to give your monstera a fresh, on-trend, summery feel.

You can use this color palette for inspiration if you're stuck wondering where to start! (Click here to download it as a Procreate swatch and it will automatically import it into Procreate when you open the file on your iPad!)
