FAO Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture

Salinity and saline agriculture were central topics during the FAO WASAG (Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture) technical meeting, held on 29 and 30 April in Rome. NWP and NFP, with support of the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the UN in Rome, organised a policy dialogue on the challenge of salinity and implementation of saline agriculture projects. The high-level panel discussion, with deputy ministers and ambassadors of Cabo Verde, Egypt and Senegal, shed light on the dynamics between policy and practice. Two knowledge products on this topic were presented:

FORQLAB Photo Exhibit

The Netherlands Food Partnership’s FORQLAB project consortium has investigated the economic and environmental impacts of food losses within dairy and avocado chains. They've explored technological and governance solutions to mitigate these losses and improve product quality. Knowledge exchange among stakeholders has been pivotal throughout the project's duration. As the project concludes, Dutch partners from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences, HAS Green Academy, and Aeres visited Kenyan counterparts from Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Egerton University, alongside local farmers, to deliberate and exchange ideas on viable solutions. To celebrate the culmination of their efforts, FORQLAB organized a knowledge-sharing event, featuring an interactive pub quiz hosted by Netherlands Food Partnership and Q-Point. Additionally, an exhibition at CoELIB Egerton media center showcased visual representations of the food loss challenges, solutions and opportunities in both value chains

NFP’s True Pricing Seed Fund Winners

After launching NFP’s True Pricing Seed Fund in March 2024, NFP is pleased to announce two fund winners: ILRI Ethiopia and Fairfood. ILRI Ethiopia will assess true prices across five food value chains, starting with coffee, while Fairfood aims to develop a true price transparency tool integrated into its ESG dashboard, 'Navigate'. These initiatives promise impactful change, from informing policy to ensuring fair compensation for farmers.

Out of five submissions, these two projects have been selected to receive grants from NFP’s True Pricing Seed Fund Grant. With 80% of the fund already allocated, there's 19,000 euros remaining for potential applicants. Apply now! Stay tuned for updates on these and future endeavours.

CGIAR Climate COP Announced

CGIAR marked a significant milestone last month with the official launch of its Climate Community of Practice (COP). As part of the Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Impact Area Platform, this initiative brings together over 600 scientists from various CGIAR centres, forming a collaborative hub for climate-focused research and action. With the COP's inauguration, the Platform will initiate smaller thematic working groups, fostering the advancement of climate knowledge within the CGIAR network. Looking ahead, the Platform aims to broaden its reach by incorporating climate scientists from outside CGIAR, ensuring a diverse and inclusive approach to tackling climate challenges.
