We are officially in the warm months, with the Sun's rays out in nearly full force. It is the season of porch meals and barbecues, especially as we approach Father's Day celebrations. Keep reading for some of our thoughts and favorite things as the warm days come upon us.

a few things highlighted this month:
  1. We are contemplating FATHERHOOD in this month's rewritten. column.
  2. The warm weather has us in the mood for hosting backyard gatherings, so we are featuring Brittney from Big Batch Energy as this month's artist. Read through for her thoughtful column on outdoor meals!

An unfamiliar lifestyle for me was knowing a father outside of my heavenly one. However, watching my husband as a father has healed areas in my heart. A special shout out to the love of my life - making da-da life look so fun! The morning concerts to get kids out of bed, the night time basketball tournaments or boxing matches in our narrow hallway, and all the lessons taught to love the wild, messy, loud and beautiful life we live. You are incredible and Kenny Neal, who you are has changed our lives!

Always curious of what life would look like with a father in the home. The fun and intimate connection with my dad just wasn’t for me as a little one. I was so eager to replace the feelings of my past with a father for my sweet babies in the future, and I did - so checked that box (woohoo). However, my Dad’s absence did take a toll on me, deeper than expected.

As I have allowed a rewritten story, I asked myself - what could redeemed fatherhood look like? After the hard conversations with myself and my father, I chose to forgive him and myself. I was proud to have grown out of resentment.  Knowing that forgiveness started with me.

I truly believe forgiveness heals the forgiver first.  My dad’s choices were not mine, and it took some work to shift my heart.  As I understood this, I decided these efforts are worth the work. It simply made room for love. I was able to extend this love to my father and he took my hand, and I took his. Knowing two wounded humans were willing to heal after so much hurt from different places was beautiful, and it has become a nice new journey adulting together.

I know all stories are not redeeming with the mending of a relationship, but my desire for you is to choose the courage to look at the area that is hard or wounded, and pick up the lens of hope. You will always win in the end.

Hope to see you in the shop or in class!

Kimberly

Late Spring and the transition to summer is a time of wonder, rejuvenation, and blossoming life.

Spending time outdoors before the full heat of summer kicks in might just be the perfect way to celebrate this time of year.

With Father’s Day approaching, planning an barbeque and grilling day, either in the backyard or at your favorite Tucson park, is an excellent way to take full advantage of the weather and vibrance that June has to offer.

From the smells of grilled meat and vegetables to the songs of wild birds and hum of bumblebees, there is a timeless energy to Southern Arizona’s late-spring season that we can cherish and savor before the season turns.

With Big Batch Energy, I strive to provide spice blends and seasoning for all tastes this season, allowing you to have a wide spectrum of flavor options when you throw your next get together and have food on the grill.

From the smokey tang of spicey barbeque to the sweet-savory blend of chicken shawarma, and everything in between, you can make your next grill day exceptionally special with Big Batch Energy Spice Blends.

Whether you are celebrating the fathers in your life, or just having a great time with your close friends, June is the perfect time to get together and grill your favorite foods.

If you are looking for the perfect spot in Tucson to celebrate, many of our amazing public parks have the accommodations to help you throw the perfect Father’s Day barbecue. If you want to get a little further away from the city life, a quick jaunt up to Mount Lemmon or Sabino Canyon can put you in the full depth of Southwest Arizona’s exceptional natural beauty.

To all the fathers in our lives, know that we appreciate you with all our hearts and celebrate you this month!

Please, take some time to relax, sit back, and enjoy the season.

Happy Father’s Day.
