WEEKLY WONDERS: w/c 27 May 2024

Hi First name,
RULES & CREATIVITY
*We don't follow other people's rules!!*
“The path of creativity doesn’t lie in restrictive and contained practices -
it lies in being free and instinctive.”
unseensketchbooks.co.uk

This month's theme for our creative thinking prompts has been all about RULES! And it's been an interesting one, I hope you agree!

It's also one which could be dived into a lot deeper, so please have a check back in the members area and reread the emails if you'd like to look at and reflect on this topic further.

For today though - and for the week to come - I'm encouraging you to:
MAKE YOUR OWN RULES!

Not all the rules we live by (and this is certainly true for many of the rules we use to restrict ourselves creatively) are REAL!

So let's create some rules ourselves! For ourselves. To best serve ourselves. And so we can enjoy our own creativity FOR US! ✊

“If you make your own rules in life, rather than going by those laid down by others, you'll find that it becomes a lot more enjoyable.”
Neil Walker

Creative Thinking Prompts (w/c 27 May 2024)
1. When you need to think creatively, what would your rule be to ensure you're able to do so?

2. Could you have a ‘rule’ to ensure you practise creative thinking DAILY - even if it's just for a couple of minutes? Think about attaching your creative thinking time to an existing habit.

3. Could you explore the idea that whenever you do something ‘creative’ it HAS to go wrong? (With the intention that you learn from your ‘mistake' and produce something even better as a result of what you learnt.)

4. Could you play like a child, instead of like an adult? What would that look like (messy probably, but not necessarily - we can always play with language remember!)

5. And (seen as it's half term for a lot of you) could you ever give over all the ‘rules’ for the day to your kids (or young relative if you don't have your own)? It's quite an ask, but firstly they would LOVE it, and secondly it would, I'm sure, be a really interesting exercise to reveal rules we live by but don't even realise we do!**

** I feel like I need a disclaimer on this one! I cannot take responsibility for what might happen 😬😂

OVERALL: Have a play with making your own rules up - whether that's only for your creativity or for life in general. Be aware of the rules you live by at present, and experiment with mixing them up, trialling out new versions, and seeing how things turn out!

Creative thinking is all about being curious (and wondering!) - so do a bit of that (in relation to your rules) in this last week of May. We'll have a new ‘theme’ to ponder on in June!

I'll leave you with one simple rule I'd love you to have:

"Everyday, I will commit to a tiny act of creative thinking."

Those tiny acts add up to big changes in your mindset and all areas of your life and business. It's gotta be worth a shot, no?!

“Wonder makes us more creative and more desirous of studying the world around us. It makes us humble, less materialistic, more generous, and better community members… Wonder makes us less stressed and feel like we have more time… Wonder quite simply makes us want to be better, more tolerant people.” (Parker, 2023)
