For floral I decided to go to a local garden, the McGill Rose Garden in the NoDA neighborhood of Charlotte, NC, and try to paint some of their flowers! I was thinking of the short thick strokes and capturing the essence vs the details from impressionism so tried my best using a palette knife and acrylic paint. It's always daunting to make that first mark but painting with a palette knife and knowing the marks don't have to be perfect and that you aren't try to replicate what you see exactly made it a little less nerve wracking.
I couldn't find one entire scene I wanted to paint so I went to a few of my favorite spots and added what I liked to my page. When I saw down to begin, I realized I didn't pack all of my colors so matching the shades was a little bit tricky and I focused more on the shapes and textures instead.
I ended up with a painting of a garden path and doing this out in the wild actually wasn't as bad or scary as I thought! I hope if you get a chance you try it out too!
