Hi First name / friend!

I'll take Hot Flashes for $500 Alex.

I  jokingly refer to this past summers travel trend as the The Menopause Tour.

Everyone was taking off to cool climates, Canada,( guilty)  Scotland,
Iceland, ( guilty)  Norway, Ireland, Greenland.  Not scientific…but I saw a pattern!

The Loch Ness Monster, castles and men in kilts. These are the things that come to mind when I think about Scotland.  Do men wear underwear under kilts?  Someone reply and let me know, (asking for a friend.)

What might you miss, especially if you aren't working with me (shameless plug)  to plan your itinerary in Scotland if you're only looking for the obvious?

You might miss great hikes, like the 14.9 mile Sgùrr na Strì. You might also miss the eerie sounds that come from Kilt Rock when the wind blows just right. And if you were to miss The Old Man of Storr?  And fantastic unique places to stay.   Tragic!

This week is an area of Scotland that's rugged, picturesque, and absolutely worth a visit: The Isle of Skye.

Considering A Trip?
WHEN TO VISIT
Skye experiences a maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers, and can be enjoyed year-round, with each season offering its own charm.
  • High Season (June to August): This is the warmest and driest part of the year, making it ideal for hiking, outdoor sightseeing, and exploring the island's natural beauty. The long daylight hours provide ample time to visit attractions like the Fairy Pools and the Quiraing. However, this period also sees the largest crowds and highest prices,  book early.
  • Shoulder Season (April to May and September to October): This offers a balance between favorable cool weather and fewer tourists. Spring brings blooming wildflowers and vibrant landscapes, while autumn showcases stunning fall colors.
  • Low Season (November to March): The low season on Skye is characterized by much cooler temperatures and more frequent rain, but it also offers a quiet experience. Winter landscapes can be dramatic and beautiful, making it an excellent time for photographers. Some attractions and accommodations may have reduced hours or be closed.

Itinerary Highlights
EXPERIENCES OF SKYE

FAIRY POOLS

The Fairy Pools are a series of crystal-clear, naturally formed pools and waterfalls located near Glenbrittle. Visitors can hike along the well-marked trail to explore these enchanting pools, which are perfect for photography and even a refreshing, albeit chilly, swim. The surrounding landscape, with its  views of the Cuillin mountains, adds to the atmosphere.  A must-see destination.
DUNVEGAN CASTLE

Dunvegan Castle is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. Visitors can explore the castle's rich history through its well-preserved rooms, filled with treasures and historical artifacts. The beautiful gardens surrounding the castle and boat trips to see the local seal colony make for a well-rounded cultural and natural experience.
TALISKER DISTILLERY

Where are my whisky drinkers?  Try Scottish whisky with a tasting session at the Talisker Distillery, located on the shores of Loch Harport and founded in 1830. As the oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye, Talisker offers a fantastic guided tours that allow visitors to explore the whisky-making process, and sampling a range of their distinctive single malts.

Travel Tips
CARING FOR YOUR PASSPORT
When you work with me one of the first things I ask for is a copy of your passport.  Aside from the obvious (like checking the expiration date and confirming you have adequate blank pages remaining), protecting your passport is essential.

Use an RFID Wallet: Protect your personal information from electronic theft by using an RFID-blocking wallet. These wallets prevent unauthorized access to the sensitive data stored in the chip of your passport, keeping your information secure.
Keep Pages Pristine: Avoid bends and tears by storing your passport in a cover. This ensures that all pages remain readable and intact for smooth processing at immigration checkpoints. You can be turned away if your passport is damaged, so this one is important!.

Make Copies:  ALWAYS carry a photocopy and digital copy of your passport.  Leave your passport in the safe of your hotel.  ( with one of your shoes). In case of loss or theft, having a copy will expedite the process of getting a replacement and can serve as proof of identity.
