YOUR MINDSET MATTERS
Ari Affirmations
My work doesn't define me.
I am more than my productivity.
I deserve to take breaks.

Happy July, boo!

Have you ever felt the pressure to always be on the grind and constantly “on”?

…and then feel a sense of guilt when you decide to take a break?

Yeahhhh. I've been there, too.

And two years ago, I learned that there is a word for it:

Toxic Productivity.

What is Toxic Productivity?

Toxic productivity is that voice in your head telling you to work harder, faster, and longer – even when your body and mind are screaming for a break. It’s the myth that productivity equals worth, and it can lead to burnout, stress, and a serious lack of balance in our lives.

Signs You Might Be Caught In The Trap
  • Constant Busyness: Feeling like you always have to be working on something, even during downtime.

  • Guilt for Resting: Feeling guilty or anxious for taking breaks, relaxing, or doing anything that isn’t “productive.”

  • Ignoring Self-care: Neglecting health, relationships, and hobbies in the name of getting things done.

  • Perfectionism: Striving for unrealistic standards and beating yourself up for not meeting them.

  • Never Feeling Accomplished: No matter how much you do, it never feels like it’s enough.

  • Burnout: You’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and struggling to keep up.

Breaking the Cycle

The constant chasing of productivity can have serious consequences. It can lead to chronic stress, burnout, and even impact your physical health. Not to mention, it can rob you of joy and fulfillment in your personal life.

We all need time to relax, recharge, and simply enjoy the moment.

Here are some tips to help you break free from toxic productivity and find a healthier balance:

  • Set Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries between work and personal time. When you’re off the clock, really be off the clock. And it’s okay to say no and protect your well-being, too, boo.

  • Prioritize Self-Care: Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. Schedule time for relaxation, hobbies, and activities that bring you joy. This could be anything from a morning yoga session to reading a book before bed.

  • Embrace Imperfection: Kick perfectionism to the curb. Understand that it’s okay to make mistakes and that you don’t have to do everything perfectly.

  • Practice Mindfulness: Take time to be present and appreciate the moment rather than constantly planning your next move. Incorporate mindfulness practices into your day to help you stay present and reduce stress. This could be meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply taking a moment to savor your coffee.

  • Celebrate Small Wins: Take time to acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem.

Your Action Plan

This week, I challenge you to identify one area of your life where you’ve been pushing yourself too hard. Take a step back and ask yourself:

Is this truly necessary, or am I just trying to be “productive”?

Remember, your worth isn’t defined by how much you get done in a day, boo. It’s okay to slow down, take breaks, and enjoy life. You deserve it and life is too short to be constantly chasing the next task.

Wishing you the best rest of your week!
