Wow! Our Coniston weekend is always a bit special and this year with two brand new courses; and new sections of interesting trails in the others, not even the dubious June weather could stop over 1500 runners have an amazing day on the Lakeland Trails! Everyone loved our new venue too - its stunning backdrop, the hassle-free parking, and the very popular bar too! |

Dan & Viv (left) with some of our fab team |

We may only have moved a mile down the road but every course was different, every marshal guide needed different information, new traffic plans had to be drafted… A huge thanks to Dan, our Event Manager and Viv, our Course & Marshal Manager, for all of the extra work they put in, ensuring everything ran smoothly and everyone had a great time. Thanks, of course, to all of the other Crew and Volunteers, including a great turnout from Coniston Mountain Rescue Team, to whom we donated £1600. As usual, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, encouragement and great enthusiasm. Even international trail running legend, inov8 athlete and Lakeland Trails' regular, Damian Hall acknowledged their amazing efforts, ‘Huge thanks all the ace marshals!’ |

Damian Hall winning Sunday's ½ Marathon |
|
We loved welcoming international trail running legend, inov8 ambassador and co-founder of The Green Runners, Damian Hall back to the Lakeland Trails. Compared to some of his incredible ultra distance challenges, it was a quick sprint for him towards victory on Sunday's ½ Marathon. Damian is becoming a regular on the Lakeland Trails and he recognises the work we're doing to make our events more sustainable, sharing some of our initiatives with other events. This year alone, we've already ordered 1500 fewer t-shirts by giving you the option of buying a race t-shirt instead of giving them away for ‘free’. It's worth checking out The Green Runners to see what changes you could make to reduce your environmental impact with some manageable steps. |

A special congratulations to Lakeland Trails' legend, Eden Runners' Jonny Cox, who has remained undefeated on the Lakeland Trails since 2022, winning distances from 15k all the way up to the Ultra, and setting a new benchmark on the Marathon on Sunday. It's not just that he's super-speedy, but he's got a huge amount of respect from his fellow participants because he's one of the nicest runners you will ever be passed by, always taking time to give out a few words of encouragement because he understands everyone is trying their hardest. Another one of our regular runners, Jo Rolls, posted these kind comments on our Facebook page: Do you know what's so lovely (and a few runners could learn a thing or two from him) is he's so encouraging to other runners on route. It's what running should always be about doing the best you can but supporting others as you go. A very worthy winner. Thanks to Jonny for not only being an inspirational athlete, but also for exemplifying what running on the Lakeland Trails is all about. How will he fare when he steps up to the Ultra 100k in a few weeks? |

Report from inov-8 Congratulations to all who ran at the Coniston event over the weekend. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces crossing the finish line, amid such an exciting atmosphere, and in one of the Lake District’s most beautiful locations. It was brilliant to have INOV8 ultra running ambassadors Damian Hall and Andy Berry join us on Sunday for the half marathon. While 12 miles is a little short (yes, really!) for these long-distance specialists, both ‘secretly’ have a turn of speed and used that to push the pace at the sharp end. Damian eventually took the win (1:27:30), with Andy third (1:30:09). Congratulations also to Alistair Steele, who sandwiched himself between the two, filling (pardon the pun) the second place spot on the podium (1:28:00). Damian said afterwards: “It was perfect running weather (a little overcast) and there was the usual positive, the inclusive Lakeland Trails atmosphere. They were fast, fun trails with good views, and some good local speedsters that kept me honest. I made the most of Andy pausing for a drink and the steep downhills. I had a blast.” A big thank you to everyone who came and took our demo shoes for a spin over the trails. It was great to talk to you all and gather really valuable feedback on the footwear. Thank you also to everyone who visited the stand of our retail partner, Pete Bland Sports – we hope you enjoy the items you bought! And so we now move on towards the big Ultra event in Ambleside on July 13th. It’s awesome to see the 100k, 55k and 23k all sold out and, by the time you read this, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the 14k full too! Just one month to go, we can’t wait.
