June is a special time at CASW; not only does it mark the eve of a busy summer season, but it is also the month where we hold two separate celebrations: Pride Month and Juneteenth. Both are celebrations that embrace distinct identities and histories of individuals within our communities, which is something we try to do every day here at CASW!!!

SCHOOL'S OUT, WORKFORCE IS INā€¦

As we enjoy the dwindling days of June, weā€™re certain that many of our CASW-Workforce participants are more than ready to start their summer jobs as soon as July rolls around! Since January, weā€™ve been preparing for Summer 2024; seven action-packed weeks of new places, new friends, lessons to be learned, and of course, invaluable work experience.

As a proud provider of the largest youth employment program in the country, weā€™re also getting ready to support our participants in any way we can, and that means processing thousands of applications and records as we try to place each participant with their ideal summer jobā€¦

END OF YEAR CELEBRATIONSā€¦

As we close out yet another memorable year of after-school programs, we canā€™t help but look back on the accomplishments of our participants. During after-school, we may spend less time than during a normal school day, but we consider those hours to be just as formative.  Whether itā€™s STEM or the arts, we hope to enrich our participantsā€™ education by allowing a more hands-on approach; and, better yet, to improve their social and leadership skills by giving them the chance to pursue their own projectsā€¦

The month of June is the start of a busy season for CASW, but it is also cause for celebration; as the school year winds down and we gear up for programs like SYEP and Summer Rising, we always look forward to an annual tradition: Our Juneteenth Celebration at our Boone Ave Office!!! As weā€™ve done for the past two years, we were glad to welcome both SYEP participants and our partners at DYCD to celebrate freedom, Black history, and equality!

As a community-based organization, we consider it our responsibility to educate our colleagues and participants on the importance of occasions like Juneteenth, especially as a celebration of the diversity and richness of NYC!
