Hello First name
When was about 3 years old, I would spend my mornings chewing the feet off my Barbie dolls.*To my mum's horror, she discovered these dolls one day whilst cleaning, all with their feet gnarled off.
I developed this habit because I found it to be somewhat comforting and oddly meditative. It also gave me something to do while I was watching Playschool.
In hindsight, I think it was because as an only child, I would spend quite a lot of time doing my own thing.
I would get lost in building a rich inner world, deep in rumination. I never judged myself about whether the things that I was doing would be considered strange or weird!
Funnily enough, I believe it was these mornings spent alone that nurtured my sensitivity, introspection, intuition and creativity.
🫧 So what does chewing on my toys have to do with branding?
Whilst you might not have chewed up your toys as a kid, this is a gentle reminder to embrace the things that are weird or slightly strange about ourselves.
Instead of shutting the doors on all these aspects of ourselves that we deem too odd to share with others, it's often our eccentricities, unique perspectives of the world, and nuanced frames of reference that we should be bringing out more in our branding, messaging and the experience we uphold for our customers or clients.
In my business, this has helped me refine my own design style; understated, conscious, structured with an easeful spacial balance and dreamlike aura, and the way I work with my clients; strategic yet intuitive, grounding and collaborative.
From a branding perspective, this is what makes your brand’s essence magnetic, sticky (in a good way) and memorable.
✴︎ What could this look for you if you leveraged this throughout your business, customer journey, offerings, branding and packaging design?
So here’s to embracing all the things that make you and your brand a little freaky!
