From the Desk of Brenda Gadd
I'm pleased to announce that the FY 2025 substitute budget was unanimously approved by the Metro Council on June 18 and has been signed by the Mayor. It went into effect on July 1. This balanced budget, developed without raising taxes, prioritizes investments in our people and essential services.
Key highlights include:
- Significant funding for Metro Schools to continue vital programs.
- $30 million allocated to the Barnes Housing Trust Fund for affordable housing.
- $1 million dedicated to community safety.
- Cost of living adjustment, merit pay increases, and a $20/hour minimum wage for Metro employees.
Thanks to Budget and Finance Committee Chair Delishia Porterfield for her alignment with our priorities and inclusion of community feedback. This budget sets the stage for future success while addressing our current needs.
Mayor Freddie O’Connell and his team filed an ordinance with Metro Council which would allow them to recommend the transportation improvement program’s inclusion on the November 5 ballot. If the Council approves, the Davidson County Election Commission would then vote on whether to call the countywide referendum election.

Curbside Collection Update
Starting July 1, curbside trash and recycling pickup will start at 6 a.m. due to extreme heat. Please put your bins out the night before your scheduled pickup.
If your trash collection day falls on a holiday, all collection days after the holiday in that week will be delayed by one day. For example, for the July 4 holiday, collection for Thursday customers will be on Friday.
